Hey everyone. I have started to swap my 99 RS with a full 07 STI drivetrain and interior. Im going to try and keep this updated with my progress and hopefully can receive tips from anyone else who has already done this, as well as offer any of my own as I continue. First up is some pics of the car as I got it in october.

This saturday I picked up everything I needed for the swap. I semi local shop had an 07 STI with a passenger rear collision, So I bought pretty much everything minus the seats and the shell. I got the full engine, Trans, and everything that attached to it. Full suspension, axels, hubs, brembo, etc. Complete wire harness and the dash, hvac, cluster, ECU, Keys, etc. EVERYTHING! oh and an accessport that was with it. bonus of it all, It comes with a warranty. Don't see that too often. Picked it all up for $8000 which I thought was pretty good considering I have seen really good Trans swap setups go for 4-5k and engines go for 3-4k

He even tossed in an extra dash for me to use as practice when I test fit it into the RS incase I need to cut anything.

The shell needs a lot of work. The typical rot at the quarter panels. Took off the door moldings and welded the holes shut. And the rest of the body is dents and dings and that need to be addressed. I also removed the antenna at the A pillar and my brother welded that shut for me. He also welded the front fenders where the side markers go so that I wont have side markers and it will be a smooth fender.

Last night I got to ripping apart the interior. This is about the most I can do at this point until the body is done. If I make the car immovable and let it sit in my dads garage for a few weeks without him being able to pull it out....He might kill me.

The previous owner also dynomatted all of the things...

So I knew I was gonna need some of the STI firewall to patch into the RS firewall....So I brought this home....

Took out the headliner and got rid of the last little bit of interior trip pieces. Also got the engine onto the stand tonight. Ive got two street bikes for sale that Im hoping sell shortly so I can buy a bunch of goodies. New turbo, injectors, meth kit, and all new gaskets, timing belt and anything else a I can replace to build up the reliability.

Not to much exciting to post. I feel like I have done everything I can until the body work is completed. I have resorted to spending my last 2 nights just organizing all of my parts and cleaning the engine. The engine, btw, is something I sould have checked the oil in to see if it was drained before sale. it was not, and I proceeded to drain its entire contents onto my fathers garage floor. I assure you 5 quarts of oil can spread quite far. If you dont see any more posts by me....My dad probably killed me....

My brother is currently finishing the body work. I did what i could, But he is a body man and i know its in better, more able hands with him. So, with that said. I am hoping for the body work to be done shortly, and to have the car back from paint by the end of march.

Decided to start tackling the dash tonight. Got the beam out and made templates for the STI beam. I'll hopefully get it in by the end of the weekend. I tossed the GD dash in for kicks to just have a little sense of satisfaction. Can't wait until this is done.

Hey everyone. Not much exciting to post. Still working on fitting the GD dash beam which hasn't proven to be the easiest task. However, the bodywork is almost done and should be primered shortly. On a good note, one of my streetbikes sold today, so I'm ordering my coilovers tomorrow and something else but I haven't decided what goodies to buy first lol.

Put a little work in on the dash beam tonight. Also cut new holes in the firewall and got the heater core fitted!!! I'm sure once I mount the beam and put the dash on I will have a few more issues to address. But it's progress!

Made some awesome progress tonight. Got the dash fitted into car on the beam. I have about a half inch gap in the left side though. I'm going to continue working on it until the gaps are eliminated. I'm in no rush.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I flew out to Dallas for a few days for a short Vaca. Hoping to hit the ground running when I get home. Selling another motorcycle this week so I'll have some more money to play with. I'd like to have this done in time for Wicked Big Meet. So I plan to devote most of my free time on it. I may even take a few more days vacation in May to finish it all up.

How did you manage to fix the gap?

Well, I havent tightnened this all in yet, so I still have some slight adjustments to make. Thats why the center console isnt lined up right either. At the moment my gap on the right is maybe and eighth if and inch but on the drivers side im looking at about a half inch. Im hoping to get into it tomorrow after work and get it back further. Im not sure if I need to move the heater core and dash beam back slightly or if its as simple at something on the dash itself reaching the firewall. I cut off some tabs, but there may be something I over looked.

Tonight was a success. Got the motor out. By myself and with no help. May not se like much to most people. But a year or two ago I needed help putting an exhaust on. So tackling this project is a big deal to me. Hoping to put in work all weekend. Also just placed an order for 1k worth of bushings and engine mounts. Not a fun expense, but one I think this build deserves.

Awesome build, and you have my full respect pulling the engine by yourself. Even if you have the ability its always nice to have someone looking over your shoulder making sure you're not about to kill yourself (either accidentally or out of frustration), so props to you.
