Owned by my mate Jon, it's a proper track animal, and he uses it to it's FULL potential - and yes, on the day of the photoshoot it had white wheels on one side, and black on the other - was an experiment, as he couldn't decide which he preferred (and, I think, got bored after repainting two of the wheels so gave up )

Was just after its respray from the original white to Gobstopper white, and just a day before the RCM-inspired livery went back on.

I do love a plain white car with white wheels, but mine just looked naked without its warpaint!

Fairly major update this one.....

OK folks, here we go. Those of a sensitive nature probably shouldn't look at the first few pics!!

On RCM's recommendation, my car went in to SGM Racepaint in Banbury. Located literally just round the corner from Prodrive's HQ, Steve has been responsible for the bodywork preparation on RCM's Team ICE Impreza, Gobstopper I, Gobstopper II, countless other customer cars, and Prodrive's own WRC cars, amongst others, so they're pretty well qualified!

Steve started cutting away the bubbly arches and roof panel to see the extent of the damage. The first few pics showed it being pretty bad.








Pretty nasty, but for a 16 year old, 170k mile car which has been hacked about a little bit before, not unexpected.

Steve then started to cut deeper, and this is when it started to get really scary and nasty.






yes, those really are holes you can see through the inner wings clear to the suspension strut. At this point, I began to wonder if I'd ever get the car back or if she'd just go to the great scooby garage in the sky. Steve didn't seem too flustered though, so new inner and outer rear quarters were ordered and shipped over from Japan.

Meanwhile, he started work on the roof panel, repairing the damage likely caused by hamfisted windscreen fitters





The new panels eventually landed, and the serious work began, cutting, fitting, filling, trimming, splicing, sanding, sealing. The attention to detail from Steve is astounding, you literally cannot see the join, even in areas where you'd maybe expect and accept seeing some. You can see that virtually the entire back end of the car came off at this stage.

Bootlid cleaned of rust and resprayed inside and out, bumper resprayed




Reassembly time. Loads of sealing applied to vulnerable areas. New trims have been fitted up the windscreen, over the roof and down the rear screen, and also to the perimeters of the side windows where they'd started to lose the black paint.







The end result is that she now looks better than ever, I'd say probably even better than when she left the factory. I cannot thank Steve @ SGM, and of course Olly @ RCM for his assistance and enabling works, enough for their hard work in this.

She now looks like this




New sidestripes are RCM's own, rather than my graphics shops interpretation of them.

RCM have also fitted an entire new rear braking system - new uprights, ABS rings and sensors, discs, pads, handbrake assembly, the works. Couple of other jobs still to sort out in the next week or so, but it's just great to have her back and be able to enjoy driving her, and see her getting lots of love and attention on the road and at shows......she even got mistaken once again for the Gobstopper at Bruntingthorpe yesterday

Been a while since this has moved on!!

Pretty major surgery on the lower chassis this time around, the next part of the piecemeal restoration process I've been having carried out.

Fair bit of corrosion on the underside, especially on the front wishbones and rear cross member - they looked like something you'd haul up from a shipwreck!

So, I've had fitted the following -

STI alloy front wishbones and STI castor blocks
new radiator
RCM 22mm front anti roll bar on OEM ball joint drop links
RCM 24mm rear ARB ditto
New sump
RCM race oil filter
Rear cross member stolen from the Gobstopper
STI lateral link set
STI rear diff bushes
Rear suspension T frame on STI bushes

The rear cross member, T frame, propshaft,diff carrier plates, and a few other bits and pieces have been cleaned up and powder coated black

I've also upgraded the manifold to a black ceramic coated version, which will help keep the heat inside the exhaust.

Lots and lots of work, all carried out in RCM's usual unbeatable attention to detail style. Not cheap, but she's now pretty much all spot on and fully up to their exacting standards.

She now handles amazingly well, so sharp, crisp and responsive. Much more grip and composure, better turn-in - I've now got confidence in the car that I've not had for yers. To quote Olly, I get what I'm given, but they give me the best

New Momo Model 07 wheel, on an OMP boss - note the new brushed aluminium button for the horn milled in to the face of the column shroud - centre push on the wheel wasn't compatible with the connection on the column. A neat little job by Olly and Matt @ RCM though

so, it's been a while since any picture-worthy updates.

First up, an RCM shifter knob. It's a little heavier and more solid than the OEM leather one, so the shift action feels marginally more robust



Secondly, some new wheels. They're Revolution Milleniums, 18x7.5", which I've had resprayed in 51E to match the car.




And lastly, we had a club photoshoot with a professional photographer, Matt Woods, a couple of weeks ago. I'm really pleased with how good he's made an 18 year old car, with 194,000 miles on the clock look!

Now that's what I'm talking about! That is how white on white should be! It's always a little bothersome to me when the car has wheels that are slightly different white from the body. Now, your car is perfect

Glad it has an owner that appreciates it and takes such good care.

thanks dude. that's why I spent out and had these blasted back to bare metal and repainted. They were gold originally, which I'd kind of talked myself in to accepting, but then a friend of mine made me see the error of my ways, and I decided it had to be white once more! lol

I've had white wheels for years now, of various types, but as you say, none have ever properly matched, always looking yellow in comparison. Now though - perfect

I recently bought myself Nikon dslr, and whilst I'm still learning how to use it, these are the first couple of pics I've taken of mine with it.




And the most recent dyno print out.....not bad for an old girl with 200,000 miles on the same engine!
