Default HID headlight keeps turning off

I have 2 10k HIDs in my 05 WRX, and when i fire up my car they are fine. but after about 1-15 mins they give a little flicker and dim a little causing the left on to go out. I have checked the ballasts, the bulbs, the connections and have the day-time running lights disabled to bypass the resistor. Should i try putting in a fuse that is 5 amps bigger or would that be too much for the wires/harnesses to handle? Also these came with the halo headlights i bought, which had oem harnesses.

I'm also running a amp and sub in my car could have be making the power flux too much causing it to go out? (going to test it today, just thought of it)

Oh Baby Jesus....

Not sure where to begin, so ill just save most of the flaming for Xan. But your basic problem is running a cheap kit, running the wrong bulbs, and doing an improper instal.

You have helped me with nothing, except criticize my work and purchase. How do you know it is a cheap kit? Why are my bulbs wrong? How did i install it wrong?

Thank you,
Max

Your headlights were halogen projectors, in which you put an "HID kit" into? This is your wrong install...

Your running 10k bulbs... If you don't know the issue with that, then you should not be trying to play with HIDs.

Im guessing your running a DDM Kt or something in that relm, which means you spent less then $100 for "HIDs" IE- a cheap kit.

If you went from non HID to HID for less then $300+, you didn't bake your headlight, do a proper retro.... then you don't have HIDs, you have a problematic cheap ebay kit(see your first post)

Even if you did a proper retro, and got the best kit on the market... by using 10k bulbs(anything over 6k actually) you are loosing light output.

I have replaced the whole headlight, it has a projector lenses but inside the halo.
link to lights.

If the issue with the lights is they produce less light, i do not mind.

I prefer the color and i have other lights if needed.

The kit says they are JDM HIDs.

Could i have baked the headlights listed? Also i had 8k bulbs in at first and it seemed to not turn off as much, now with the 10k's its more frequent.

Thank you,
Max

Those lenses are still halogen projectors, not HID projectors(there is a difference).

"JDM HIDs" is nothing more then a marketing ploy/terminology. As the Imprezas with factory HID's were the same from JDM to USDM IIRC.

You can bake any headlight to change out the projectors, however it would have been cheaper to do this to your factory lenses, instead of to buying these first. At $279 for both assembly and HID kit, it is defiantly a cheap kit. A true retro fit kit(no headlight assembly, just the projectors, in which extra labor/modding is required) will set you back a minimum of $300 alone.

You really should mind if the light output is less, why wouldn't you. Why spend money to "upgrade" your lights so that you can see much worse... there is no logic there.

You need to take a few minutes and read this... http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html

Alright, so basically what i have gotten from all of this is:

Put the old lights back in for now.

bake the low beam light assemblies to get lenses and reflectors off, and replace them with the proper HID lenses.

As for the less light output it is simply a matter of my preference, and upgrading them for the look.

Also do you think it is the ballasts that are causing one light to go out or what?

Thank you,
Max

It could be the ballasts, as I am sure these are "wallmart" style kits..

I would recommend giving these guys a call. They do it right, and can give you all of the information and pricing you need. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

Best bet...

Sell the headlamps
Sell the kit
Talk to these guys http://www.theretrofitsource.com/
They have one kit for $270 I believe for our headlights that is all the stuff you need. HID projectors, 4300K bulbs, shrouds, ballasts. I am going to be going that route here eventually given I can find enough time to bake my headlights open, and install.

Honestly you will find 4300-5000k will be a much better "look" cause with a proper kit you will see so much better, and to oncoming traffic they will see a flicker of purple/blue whcih is the cut off of proper HID projectors. Its what gives people the illusion that they need to buy this higher kelvin bulbs to get what they see on BMWs and Escalades.
