They both have the same boxer engine.

really? uh oh. not looking good for the brz.

so is the only difference going to be styling and interior? ...and wheels? as in, the scion will look great, while the brz will look like a jelly bean? and the scion will have a name brand stereo, while the brz will have something generic that sounds like it's 10 years old? and the scion will have good looking, but narrow wheels, while the brz will have generic looking, narrow, and small wheels?

oh well.

Already used by Subaru. They have some of the other stars in the cluster that they used on concepts that can be used.

edit: for reference, here's the scion version...

That looks like a tacky kit car.

That's because it kinda is... it's Axis tunings example of the the Scion version. For this to fit in Subaru's line up expect to see the legacy style headlights like what's on the new impreza and a more rounded architecture. .02

Electra sounds too close to Electric, which the BRZ is not, and I think it's owned by GM (Buick Electra).

That and its still a concept. There is no way they release it with mirrors like that. I'm sure it will look similar but will have more practical parts.

the swirly-painted prototypes most closely resemble the MKII concept (the black one). This suggests the production versions (both scion and subie) will share more things in common with the black concept than the red FR-S concept.

and the name BRZ is rubbish.

You had fun with the AWD & turbo comments and now it stops.

I've done clean up... next AWD or turbo comment and the member gets cleaned up for 2 weeks.

What about constant attempts to diminish the new RWD Coupe by suggesting that it is an affront to Subaru tradition?

I think the "Z" letter bothers me the most for the name of this car. Too ambitious, it lacks humility. I know Subaru has aspirations, but I feel like they're going about it the wrong way with this name.

I've had a lot of faith in every development of this RWD coupe up until this point. "BRZ" has to go, or at LEAST "Z".

I thought the Scion version was already going to be turbocharged? Am I mistaken?

Stop messing around!

The overall consensus (and I believe official word) is that the engine setup does not allow for turbo-charging at this time. It was purposed as NA from the beginning. They'd have to invest more R&D into a turbo-charged version. It won't happen unless these cars fly off the showroom floors.

Looking at the see-through Subaru concept, I might have found the difference between the two or I might be talking out of my ass as usual

The Subaru see-through car has the silhouette of an early Nissan Z-car (maybe that's why they call it BRZ?) and the Scion/Toyota has a more technological, modern look.

If that's the case, it's absolutely brilliant. Customers looking for a more traditional sportscoupe experience would go with the Subaru, and if you want something more edgy, go for the Toyota.

A simple letter position change would make the name more appealing...

SUBARU ZB-R.
