Default V2 wont connect to PC

Ive been browsing the Cobb forums for the past 2 hours to no relief. Here is my info:
Im running Vista Home Premium 64bit
The AP connects with the vehicle fine.
Firmware on the AP right now is 1.1.1.3-4044
Latest MM version is downloaded.
When connected to the comp the auto driver promp comes up with no drivers

When trying to manually install drivers I get an error message that it found the driver but encoutered a problem when installing with no other info

Ive tried running MM in XP compatibility mode
Ive tried 3 diff usb cables
No warning about unsigned drivers on install
Ive tried manually connecting the AP in MM

Thanks for the help!

Resolution
After wasting several hours browsing forums, calling tech, troubleshooting my OS I never did get this to work on my Vista 64 system. My system was telling me to contact Cobb support and Cobb was telling me to contact Microsoft.....I guess two wrongs will never make a right. There must be an issue with Cobbs software and the compatibility with Vistas newest updates or service pack. I ended up paying more money and buying Windows 7 and it worked the first time ....

In the instruction manual it says you MUST connect it to the car BEFORE you can connect to a PC.

After you flash the car you can hook it up tothe PC, and then go to Cobbtuning.com. Then click the support tab. Then click download AP Manager.

After installed you can then select other maps to download, update your firmware etc.

I had the same problem. You have to install the usb driver first. When you plug it in, follow the windows prompt, choose "let windows search driver"(I don't remember the exact wording), then you AP manager will see it.

Running on windows vista premium. Tried a different USB cable, tried manually installing the device driver, tried reinstalling manager software. No luck. No error messages, just that it's unable to connect to ap.

Way to ignore my instructions. GO TO www.cobbtuning.com. Click on the SUPPORT tab. Scroll down past the FFS and LC conversion utility and there will be a BIG BLUE TAB that says "AP MANAGER 2.0". Click the one for windows. This isn't that hard....

You really think I'm that dumb? This was the first thing I did. And I've tried reinstalling the manager 2.0 and manually installing the driver software included in it. But thanks for nothing again buddy.

Hi there. Sorry for the trouble you've been having.

What version of windows are you running? The drivers are included with the AP Manager software and there is no download necessary (other than the AP Manager software itself) nor is there a need for the CD. When you install, you may be presented with a warning about unsigned drivers - you want to click on "continue anyway".

When you plug in the AP, does the windows driver install wizard pop up? If so, what happens when you allow it to search for the drivers automatically?

Bill

Are your USB ports 2.0 or 3.0?

I would first try to re-install AP Manager as admin (right click and select run as administrator). Then plug the AP in.

Can you describe in detail what happens when you plug the AP in and the windows driver wizard pops up? What are you selecting and what are the exact error messages?

I tried uninstalling and running as admin. Once I plug in the USB cord is recognizes the new hardware and attempts to install driver. After a while it fails to find one and just says to contact the mfg. If I manually update from device manager it locates the driver in the mm software but only says error when installing driver. Contact mfg.

Ok, got a response back. Please try the following steps:
1. Go to control panel -> programs and features.

2. Uninstall any application that starts with "AccessPORT". For example, "AccessPORT Driver...", "AccessPORT Manager...", etc.

3. Delete any downloads for AP Manager that you have.

4. Delete any shortcuts that remain for the AP Manager software.

5. Remove the AP CD from your CD drive, if you have one.

6. Reboot the computer.

7. Download AccessPORT Manager 2.0 from here:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?id=3059

8. Install AccessPORT Manager 2.0 as admin (right click and select run as administrator).

9. Reboot

10. Plug AP in and allow windows to automatically find drivers.

11. Open AccessPORT Manager 2.0.

Idk if it's worth mentioning but when I try and manually update the driver software in the device manager using the ap folders it says error message " Can not copy to specific target" when attempting to install.

AP Manager 2.0 does not place drivers in any of the AccessPORT folders. Can you confirm that you are running AP Manager 2.0. When you open it, it will say "AccessPORT Manager 2.0.1.5" at the top. Before you were mentioning "MM" which probably refers to "Map Manager", the old software that does not install drivers for Vista 64-bit.

I'm sorry for the confusion but yes when I say MM I was referring to the new AP Manager 2.0 software and it is the newest version. As far as the driver folder, after install under program filesx86 in the c drive there is a "accessport driver" folder that contains several items including a driver install application and extensions files. When using the folder to search for the driver software and install manually, windows appears to have located the proper driver but has trouble installing it and says " unable to copy to specific target". ?

What does the AccessPORT show up as in device manager?

Try this:

1. Go to device manager and right click on AccessPORT device.

2. Select uninstall. If "Delete the driver software for this device" is shown, make sure that it is CHECKED. Hit OK.

3. Reinstall AP Manager 2.0 and reboot.

4. Plug in AP and let windows automatically load drivers.

5. Start AP Manager 2.0 and see if it recognizes AP.

It shows up as an "unidentified device" in device manager. I'll give it another go after work.

Ok tried the new steps and still no different results. Under the AccessPORT Driver folder in Program files this is the copy from the "text file" in there.

No sure if it has anything to do with it but it appears there may have been a problem with the download or a problem with windows applying the driver software to the device.

Hoping for some more ideas......
