Question Do I need a resonator?

Hey all...

I'm FINALLY getting my exhuast fixed tomorrow...looks like I gotta get a custom made mid-pipe to fit my Brullen rear section (looooooooooong story!).

I'll probably be going with a 2.5" pipe, but, should I get a resonator?

I've had a mid-pipe from Lachute on my car for about a year, its 2.5" with a resonator, and the car wasnt quiet nor loud...just sounded like an aftermarket exhaust (I have the quietest Brullen).

Is my car gonna be much louder without a resonator? I dont wanna pay like and extra $100 to put on on if its useless.

How much quieter can it be with a little resonator?

yeah it's a bit louder without it...

i dont have a resonator and i have a Scoobysport...
it's LOUD under heavy throttle...
but cruising speeds? not a problem...
i've never received a ticket... yet... (knock on wood... eh? )

i like em loud tho... and it all depends on your
personal preference....
you could just pass on the resonator for now...
and add it later if needed...

I have planned on doing the same thing. First I just have to remove those rusty bolts, which seems impossible.

Is switching the resonator to a straight pipe easy to do Jamie? If you can shortly explain what to do, I'd be most grateful.

Of course others can explain it too

Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure about the 1.8 but on the 2.5 the resonator is a part of the mid pipe. You will have to cut it off/out, then weld in a new strait pipe. That is unless you have an aftermarket mid pipe.

EXACTLY... if you decide you want the resonator re added...
save the original bits...

take it to a true muffler shop...
have them re fab the mid pipe w/the resonator intact...

i had my mid pipe custom fabbed (no res.) and the scoobysport muffler INSTALLED for $100.

you go to a real exhaust tuners...
it's not that big of a deal... they know their stuff...
