Here is a mock draft I just took part in. Only made my first pick, then let the computer pick my selections afterwards. Prefer to get in on a draft with as many other live drafters as possible.

Mock drafters like to go close or near to the websites 'pre-rankings" of players. And we all know those are not realistic at all.

That looks pretty solid. I wouldn't worry too much about the second round if you're looking for a QB. Those draft results don't look like anything out the ordinary.

The ADP on that site through all the mocking has only Vick, Rodgers, and Brady going in the first 2 rounds. But thats just one site. Our draft will be through CBS, and their ADP is showing Vick, Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Rivers and Manning going in the first 2 rounds.

you have to keep calvin johnson because you have stafford. players i'd be willing to trade: blount, fjax, bowe, LT, ochocinco, julio jones

larry fitzgerald and calvin johnson will never leave the starting lineup except for byes. i'd keep blount and fjax then package the rest somehow to get a better RB.

How does that look? I was drafting in anticipation for a 20 team auction draft. Looking for balance and depth over straight up insane players like AP.

I've looked at CBS's rankings this year several times. Out of all of the sites out there, they are the worst.. at least this year. If the drafters follow their rankings, you could have problems. I still can't imagine Peyton going before 25. Your mock draft that you posted surprised me with Tony Romo. I'm no fan, but he should go mid-late 3rd in almost any league not the 5th. I'm still convinced Stafford is a complete steal because he will be top 5 if not 3 FF QBs.

I'm actually very happy with my team. Fjax gets overlooked every year and always picks up the pace by week 3- I had him last year and he bailed me out. Blount is solid and only getting better, I don't want to get rid of either of them. LT I'm not so sure about, at least to the extent that he's worth the gamble. I won't unload Fitz or Johnson, simply because what I would need for them, no one would offer. I'm on the fence with Bowe, but willing to take the risk.

Before I answer, was this your actual auction draft or just a practice?

Practice. I wanted Vincent Jackson instead of Lloyd but someone drove him too far up.

Also, bear in mind in a 20 team league prices are highly inflated. For example, a 20 team league I drafted for live last week, AP went for 119 and Vick went for 108. 200 dollar total spending.

I'm no auction league veteran, but I think you over-paid huge for little hope of return. I'll let an auction guru chime in before I embarrass myself.

See, that's where I am stuck at. Does it make sense to spend over 50% of your budget on 2 big points makers or to spread it across a field evenly? Math says my setup above, at projected points earned, should make more than grabbing just AP and Foster and adding crap players further down

I like your strategy, just not who you bid on.

There are lots of auction strategies but I'm huuuugely a fan of the stars 'n' scrubs concept.

Devote 75% of your money to 2-3 top tier players. If you're in a $200 league (which I think you are), that's $150. Get a $60, $50, and $40 player, and then realize that you can get a guy like Stafford for $5. You try to get big performers and then hope that you hit with a few cheap $1/$2 players to create a juggernaut.

Your strategy gives you a competitive team (though I dont' like who you bid on) but you're never going to be a powerhouse team.

Knowing your league is also very important in auctions. I completely agree with the concept "never bid/nominate someone you don't want on your team," but there are always hot players that I use to reduce the amount of money everyone else has left.

Last year my nominations in a keeper league started off Bradford, Gore, Crabtree, and Jahvid Best. Hype players. They went for WAAAAAAY more than they should have and ate up a lot of my opposing managers' budgets. You'll always get the "DAMNIT I wanted to wait on him, why'd you have to nominate him now?!" One of my friends was set on a certain player (I can't recall whom) and I had him pegged as a $23 player. We went back and forth until we were at $38. He finally bid $39 and I backed away saying I'm out. He... went... ape****. "I was only bidding him up 'cause I thought you'd go to $40! I wanted him for like $25 but wtf I don't want him for $39!" Man that felt good.

Did some quick math after a draft.

I did an average team (My big names were Peyton manning and Fitzgerald) and it's season points output (calculating starters only, not bench) was 1550. I have good benchwarmers IMO as well.
Peyton Manning
DeAngelo Williams
Legarrate Blount
Percy Harvin
Larry Fitzgerald
Jimmy Graham
Neil Rackers
Steelers D/ST

Looked through other drafters team and found a guy who squeaked by with a fantastic draft. Had Foster, Johnson, Raplesburger, but the rest was sort of mid-pack to crappy. His yearly output sans bench was 1508. Not a massive difference. He spent $120 on Fost/CJ alone.
Ben Roethelsberger
Chris Johnson
Arian Foster
Ahmad Bradshaw
Braylon Edwards
Wes Welker
Rob Gronkowski
Giants D/ST
Billy Cundif

To me the biggest difference is downtime weeks for Foster/CJ. When they are out, or heck if they get injured, the teams is probably boned.

Reports say Carson Palmer may return next week. Mixed reports on this. Picked him up just incase he does and has trade value. Dropped Davone Bess, really don't want a Miami WR on my team anyway.

Is there anything on that team you'd want to draft besides Marshall in the 9th round? You could gamble on Reggie Bush because so far Daniel Thomas has been unimpressive, but Bush loves to get injured and underperform year in and year out...

Will not happen, that's just the rumor mill. Too much bad blood between him and Mike Brown.

Drafted yesterday in the 12 spot. No PPR, QB-RB-RB-WR-WR-WR-TE-K-DEF. Comments?

That's a pretty balanced team for going last. I'm kind of surprised Andre lasted that long. I like the team but I'm not sure about Eli this year, he hasn't been looking good at all.

Great WR's...rough QB unless Cutler has a decent season...Eli is scary he turns the ball over A LOT and the Giants are iffy this season at best. After McCoy Greene is still a big question mark...

Who did you pick 12/13 ?

Yeah my 1-2 pick was a no brainer I thought. Then when 3-4 came around, the run on QBs had come and gone and I wasn't going to reach for a 3rd tier QB, so I waited. I didn't draft Eli until end of round 9. I love my WRs, I like my RBs, and my QBs are serviceable if I can play the matchup game, until hopefully someone takes the lead as my clear starter.

Looks like he picked McCoy and Andre Johnson.

I'd say thats a solid team. You may want to consider trading for a QB with either more consistency or a high risk/reward type (like Stafford or Bradford). Also, check the waiver wire for guys like Antonio Brown for a better backup WR than Driver...he is a good player, but I think he will be used sparingly considering the offense he is in.
