Default 2012 Acura TSX Special Edition Announced

Quote:
To celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary, Acura is producing a Special Edition of the TSX. The TSX Special Edition model will give the popular sedan a sportier, more aggressive look – a good thing, considering the upgrades are all cosmetic.
The TSX will receive a more aggressive front spoiler, unique side sills and rear fascia as well as new polished 17-inch alloy rims with a dark grey background. On the inside, the seats will be finished with black suede inserts that contrast the red stitching. The red stitching will also carry over on the steering wheel and shift knob. The red theme continues on the gauges, overhead lighting and foot-well. The sedan will also receive aluminum pedals and silver plating for the steering-wheel-mounted shifters.
Powering the TSX will be the K24 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, mated to either a close-ratio 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. The TSX Special Edition will make its debut at the Orange Country International Auto Show on September 22nd, and will likely go on sale at the same time.

All cosmetic special edition, huh?

Acura's taking lessons from GM & Chrysler, that's great thinking, lets copy the two auto makers who've most recently gone bankrupt.

I'd rather drive a Buick by a large margin. Acura/Honda used to be cool.

your blurb failed to mention the all-black headliner

not putting the new 6at in the v6 tsx is puzzling however

Didn't Toyota do this garbage first w/ the Corolla S back in the nineties? I remember the first "S" variant was pretty much cosmetic junk - less than what this TSX is offering to boot.

A lame "special edition" no matter who's offering it IMHO.

Wow 17 inch wheels, barely 200hp and even less torque and it costs over $30K. I can't get to the dealer fast enough.

And it's being released at the Orange County Auto Show

Well, it's good for one thing, at the OC Show you can test drive cars in the back if you have a driver's license.

Well, GM was doing dash plaque special editions of the Camaro and Corvette by the early 80's (and probably before that), so they're still the kings.

This is even lamer than the Accord & Civic special editions which always crop up in the last model year of a product cycle. At least those cars offer a unique combination of options which were not otherwise available.

The Corolla still has a S that is just sports trim, it's alright though. But Acura in this case adds a body kit and calls it a special edition.

I test drove a Genesis, Mazda6 and Sequoia there in 2008. The back even had a special dirt course for the Toyota trucks

So even when the japanese big 3 do something stupid, you still gotta insult GM? Wow.

No they weren't. For either car. Or before that. And no, I don't think an indy pace car should count, as that's a time-tested honor that PLENTY of cars have worn.

And for the topic of this thread...A special edition is TOTALLY different from a sports edition or something like that. the corolla mentioned earlier is an S, presumably for some sports upgrade. The special edition badge is almost always commemorating some milestone, usually with a couple cosmetic options, and a few creature comforts.

I agree. So, a while back I sent a message to Duane Baumiller at Motorcars Acura in Cleveland - he does some very nice road tests/reviews on YouTube, including...

...a nice one of the 2009 MDX that I watched at one time.

He summed it up like this: there's no demand for it. The wagon is an experimental, likely short-lived, low-volume vehicle for Acura, speaking to a very niche market.

Outside of his reply... On top of that, we know the TSX is really the JDM Accord. And that car doesn't offer SH-AWD, so until that happens, the TSX likely won't ever get it. The turbo, well that's more possible, but AWD is not.

Unfortunately - because I'd also be very interested. A TL wagon, now that would be nice too!

Acura confused itself with Porsche who can sell 200 hp cars for $40k...
