Default I Got My 2.5 Motor And Fwd L 2.5 Project Has Begun!!!!!!

I just bought my 2.5 i have been in hard search of, so now the project begins, like the guy from fakewrx.com, i am going to attempt to retain the 1.8 ecu to control it, i believe he said the only prob not listed on the site is it runs the 2.5 a bit rich, so i have a safc here to control that.....i will be updating this thread every step of the way, so all you L owners can see the power you can have in your car!

Cool

hmmmmm
i'm plopping the whole 2.5 drivetrain into a 1.8FWD myself...

interesting that you've chosen to run the stock ecu
rather than a 2.5 ecu and wiring harness....

on top of that - i'm converting it to AWD so quite a bit o work there...
we'll take pix too..
be interesting to see the similarities in the 2 projects...

picking up most of my donor pieces in 3 weeks

good luck on ya project!

mikey -- well, looks like someone beat me to the punch on building a high powered FWD impreza. grr.

let me know how it goes...i was always concerned about things like axle longevity. getting it running is the easy part -- i drove a B4 powered brighton, running of the 1.8 ECU...no problems, except it ran very rich. the SAFC was set on -50 across the rev range, and people would stop tailgating you after one rev match, since the ensuing WRC fireball would melt their bumper. but there was absolutely NO danger of detonation.

How much for the 2.5L engine? How many miles? How much is the install gonna be? I've decided to start selling my fishtank collection and saving like a madman in order to do the ol' 2.5L engine swap too. I've got $300 set aside right now, hopefully after my b-day I'll have enough.
Bang for the buck, the engine swap can't be beat...

mcu81 - dropping it in yourself eh? Document everything so other 1.8L owners can learn from your mistakes.

According to my calculations, my ~2350 lb. car with a 2.5L engine modded up to 173 HP will have the same weight to power ratio as a stock WRX. That may not be entirely accurate, taking into account the weight of the bigger engine though.

Unless you get a DOHC 2.5 there shouldn't be much of a size/weight difference.

Hey, putting a 2.5 L engine into my n/a '95 impreza sounds like a much cheaper alternative to the 2.2/2.0 L WRX engine swap..

what all would you have to buy to put a 2.5 L engine in a 1.8L impreza? and about how much would it cost.. i'm thinkin cheapest way here.. but i would like to know the different ways to do this..

I think Subie Gal meant that you can't use a 2.5RS because it has a sunroof, but you can use that engine in an L and it would be legal. A 2.5RS would not be legal, but a 2.5L (take the 2.5 L engine out of an RS and throw it in an L) would be legal. I'm guessing this is what she means.

Yes you are correct in saying that Subaru never released a 2.5 L model. You take your L, put in a 2.5 engine and it becomes a 2.5L. Kinda like how the guys with the turbo'd RS's are calling their cars RS-T's. Subaru never released an RS-T, that's just a name they made up to describe their car. Get it?
The only way a 2.5 liter engine could be used in PGT, would be if it was in an L with no sunroof.

Good luck on this project. I'll be watching it carefully since I'm looking at doing the same thing. Maybe when WorldCom stock comes back up I can afford it. Keep us posted!
