Default IAG Taillight Overlays Install '11 SWP Hatch

Today I completed my first mod on my 1 day old WRX Limited.
I love the car but couldn't stand the taillights.
I ordered the IAG taillight film about a week ago so I could have it to install this weekend.
It wasn't the easiest mod but I'm glad I did it know that I'm done.
I have to say they came out perfect and really changed the look of the car completely.

If this works out well for you, check out my 2011 WRX build thread over here! I have many more install threads...

Here are some pics:

Details, super happy with how smooth I was able to get the edges!

This is what it should have looked like straight from the factory. Job well done.

Been debating doing overlays for awhile, this just convinced to do it to my '11 hatch. Thanks!

IAG installed their overlays on mine and it was worth every penny. Definitely a huge improvement.

looks great man... I've been trying to decide which path I want to take as well(paint or overlay). Those overlays do look great.

Hey Overland04, these are looking great - awesome photos! I just received the exact kit for my '11 hatch. Can you provide some feedback/tips/recommendations on the install?

I've done a lot of research on installing overlays (whether they're from B@t or IAG) and it seems as though taking the light housings off the car would be best (easier to work with the overlay, etc.). I'm guessing you cut the turn & reverse signals out after the red overlay went on?

Thanks, any feedback would be much appreciated!

Did the iag overlays come with the pieces that go down the middle, where the gap in the tails is?

This guy's IAG's look the same: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...6&postcount=12

However, I have seen a few that didnt have the vertical line in the middle.

I like it, so I just wanted to make sure before I ordered some. Also, any advice/input on the install?

^Set aside a GOOD amount of time if you want to do this correctly. I would set aside at least 3 hours if you want perfect results.

The overlays come solid red... After you completley install them, you cutout the sections inside the lights out. I've seen the lights done with the middle section that you mentioned removed, I don't think it looks as clean that way.

They give you a template that you place over the light once you're done. the template that they give you will be in the shape of the cutout that I did on my lights.

If you have any questions during the install, just let me know!

got a question for ya, it says on the instructions to use the scrapper along with heat gun to pull it tight over the light. So you have the scrapper in one hand heat gun in other, dont you need another hand to help get it pulled tight over the light? Did you use a second person ?

Haha, good point! If you haven't tried to do these already, I just squeezed the light in between my knees and laid the film over the light. Once it was centered, I worked my way from the middle out towards the edges using the scrapper to do the large flat sections. From that point I used the heat gun and my hands to do the rest.
I never though of using two people, it might work but I'm sure I just didn't want some other dude pulling on vinyl film around my crotch area, lol

Good luck!

Question getting ready to install on my 12 hatch

I will be doing the install this weekend and was wanting to know if the hair dryer is mandatory? This is the first time I have ever installed an overlay. I am going to pull the tail lights so I can work them off the car, and I am a bit nervous, so any advice/ suggestions would be accepted
