Default USDM 2.0 EJ205 WRX swap into a 1997 Legacy 4eat

I got a friend that has a 1997 Subaru Legacy 4eat (Auto) He is finally thinking about doing a 2002-2005 USDM 2.0 EJ205 engine swap and rebuilding his current transmission. Is there any unforeseeable problems that will occur? I know for a fact he will be getting the complete longblock with all accessories from intake manifold, radiator, wiring harness, etc. However, the only thing is will the transmission be able to work properly with the newer engine is my only question. Mechanically it seems like it will bolt up fine perfectly. Any input MUCH appreciated. We will probably be getting a harness made to be a plug and play setup by ECS for this swap. Thanks in advance.
