Default 06 WRX 255 into 05 FXT - Wiring questions

I spun a rod bearing in my 2005 Forester XT, and bought a fully dressed 2006 WRX EJ255.

It has the engine harness and all accessories. I have done very light searching, but obviously not enough because I didn't get the answer I was looking for.

Will the harness that goes between the engine harness and the ECU support a 2006 WRX ECU and engine harness, or will I need to swap that as well?

The connectors look the same, but I guess the only way that it would work would be if the FXT had unused wires in the same location as the later WRXs - which seems unlikely.

Sorry for the lazy question, any help is appreciated.

Random info: I'm bringing over my Flywheel and a new pull-style clutch, I'm aware that the 06+ WRX uses a push-style.

I would remove the intake manifold from the "new" engine.
and bolt on your old one with the wiring harness from fxt.

I was thinking about doing that.

Is the cam timing system the same? I'm concerned about the tune being different. Would you recommend that I just swap the intake/engine harness and get my FXT's ECU flashed for a 06 WRX 255?

The engines accessories definitely look the same, minus the composite material for the WRX's coolant tank, and the canister bolted onto the driver's side of the engine, which my FXT didn't have.

The engine harnesses is the same unless the 2006 WRX had an emissions air pump. I swapped an 05 STI engine directly into an 04 FXT. No problems with wiring.

Your car should run fine with no retune. Any difference between the engines is minimal enough that the stock ECU can deal with it.

The 06 has an air pump, heads are different, pistons are different, comp ratio is different. Not sure how this will turn out.

The timing was way advanced using the 06 WRX heads - I got a Cobb Accessport and used the stock WRX timing tables and everything is fine now.
