Maybe it's because I've moved to a more populated area but this paint is not holding up to anything! I got the paint pen from duplicolor and that seems to help the chips but I have no choice for the front bumper unless I repaint it. I've had the car since february and for the bumper to look like this already is crazy!! I've had other cars and they have held up better

I've never had a car with worse paint than the 2011 impeza. My 2002 forester was better than this and even that was bad. It's so bad it's almost a joke. This car is only 8 months old and the hood looks worse than my 11 year old honda. They should ship the car with a clear bra on the entire front end.

Agree, best you can do is mask it with some touch up paint. Also, I heard if you vinyl wrap over rock chips and such it won't necessarily cover it up. At this point I'll touch-up every so often. if it really start to bother me I'll pull the front bumper off for a sanding and re-spray.

Within a month my brand new 2004 GTO had the paint peeling off the handles, I wanted to kill everyone at GM after that. So things could be worse, my 2003 MINI had the best paint I ever seen, that paint stayed on and was almost perfect when I traded it in. I really hope this car won't be another paint nightmare, if it starts getting worse, I will have the whole front end resprayed the correct way. I am stuck with this car for 5yrs, it better hold up well, or it will be the last Subaru I ever buy.

First thing I did to my car when I bought it new off the lot was a clear bra. It took 2 weeks to setup an install date however, and by then there were already 2 small rock chips on the front bumper. Luckily they were small enough that they were able to use a paint pen and make them invisible before the install. I can only imagine what my front bumper would look like now...
Hell after washing my car last week, upon close inspection I noticed a sub millimeter rock chip on the millimeter width of paint exposed on my front bumper (since the clear bra stops about a millimeter from the headlights). |

It isn't just Subaru. On just about any forum I lurk on, they complain about paint chips.

My god. I just washed and waxed my car the paint has literally chipped away from around the wheel well on the back bumper and about 4 huge rock chips on the front foglight housing. Idk how thick the pain or clear is but it couldnt be thicker than a human hair

Just curious where did you go and what was it cost wise (ballpark is fine)? My car is currently OBP but chipping terribly and I'm looking at re-painting it but kinda need to know ballpark of where to save up to as an estimate. ETA: never mind, you're super far away from me, feel free to ignore my comment /facepalm |

My 02 thats supposed to be MPB looks navy blue... chips everywhere, with peeling clear along the bottom of all the window trim along the doors.
It's soft thin paint... may aswell invest in new paint. |

IIRC, thicknesses of ~100 - 200 microns is what you'll find for typical modern paint (4-8 mils) but the simple fact is that is most factory paint jobs are just thinner these days. |

The manufacturers say it's due to new regulations on the environmentally friendliness of the paint and the processes. We are having the same issues with our last two Hondas. It sucks but it seems like most manufacturers are having to abide or else pay a premium tax or similar.
Feel free to refute as this is just what I've "heard" but it sounds plausible enough. |

With less than 50 miles. I clear brad the entire front clip+ running boards( i hate when people kick it when getting in the car) door cups for nail scratches while opening and had the factory ones removed and redone with complete wrap around edges and and larger coverage. All done with xpel ultimate self healing. Lets just say with the price i paid, my sti would be stage 2 and then some. (oh plus rally armors as soon as i brought the car home.) lol this is one expensive car!

Yeah...we are getting ready to pick up an impreza sport for the wifey and I really want to clear bra the front bumper and hood maybe fenders. She drives 120 miles a day (freeway commute to work) so I'm worried about chips. From looking around, around $800? Or is that not accurate?

The paint job is definitely worse than my low end 2003 Toyota. I've had my 2011 for less than a year and it's got chips and scratches all over it. Infuriating!
