Default 2012 Nissan Versa outselling other sub-compacts after first full-month on sale

Quote:
Don’t think that 2012 Nissan Versa is a strong competitor in the sub-compact segment – well, think again. Following the first month of availability of the 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan, the best-selling subcompact in the United States outsold all other sub-compacts.

2012 Versa sales in August came in at 8,566 units, beating all competitors including Chevrolet Aveo, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Mazda2 and Toyota Yaris.

Model Versa Fiesta Fit Accent Aveo Yaris Mazda 2

Aug. ’11 Sales 8,566 5,833 3,959 5,289 2,596 1,112 1,387

CYTD Sales 59,811 53,258 43,234 36,245 27,211 14,192 9,899

“We launched the new Versa Sedan from a position of strength, with Versa holding a substantial lead in sub-compact sales for the 2011 calendar year, and August sales up 14.9% over the previous year,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “It’s encouraging to see the tremendous dealer and consumer response to the all-new Versa Sedan design, keeping Versa’s momentum going in this highly competitive market segment.”

Refresher: Power for the 2012 Nissan Versa comes from a 1.6-liter HR16DE 4-cylinder engine making 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual transmission (1.6 S model only) and a next-generation Xtronic CVT transmission. EPA rater fuel-economy for the Versa Sedan comes in at 30/38/33 mpg (city/highway/combined) with the CVT transmission and 27/36/30 mpg with the 5-speed manual transmission. Prices start at $10,990.

Yep. The Versa is one of the worst cars I've ever had the misfortune of driving. Cheap-feeling, ugly, slow, and uncomfortable.
The Fiesta, Fit, and Accent all blow that thing out of the water. The Aveo and Yaris are similar piles of suck and I can't comment on the differences between the M2 and Fiesta.

^What do you want for a starting price of $10,990 brand new? It is what it is.
