I wonder if you went too heavy on the coats. You definitely have some dripping down your wheel. Try going lighter coats for your other wheels. If you haven't checked out dipyourcar.com youtube channel it'll be a good reference.

I can't speak about the paint thinner & wagner suggestions (but I'm sure they would help), but I had the same issue when painting my winter rims orange, in that it was below 40 degrees and the paint just did not come out 'right' form the can... resulting in a job that was ok, but not at all what I expected. I pegged it on a 'too cold' environment!

I was wondering the same thing. But it seemed like I wasn't getting full coverage unless I put the coats on fairly heavy.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I always leave my paint cans in the house for a few days before I use them. Always do the first few coats light then get a little thicker but you should never have runs with plasti dip. That paint is sticky and very easy to use. Watch the YouTube videos by dipped parts to see how to spray them if you're unsure.

I tried with cold cans my first time and it came out crappy. It was like spraying undercoating, very lumpy. Set the can in front of my heater for a bit, and it was like spraying paint, went on like a dream.

I'm going to 'dip my winter wheels that are on the Impreza, mostly out of necessity as they're pitting pretty badly from all the road salt. I'm going to paint 'em black, on the inside and the outside of the rim.

The thing is, I'm waiting for it to warm up enough and for the snow to melt before I can do it. Will post results when completed.

I'll be dipping my stock wheels black this weekend just until I can afford some new ones then stock will become winter wheels. I'll post pics when I get the chance.

Just a rattle can tip I picked up when spraying small parts, (not sure if this was covered or common knowledge) but when I wanted to ensure a consistent spray pattern and coverage, I'd have a bucket of hot water, maintained at 85* or so that I'd warm my rattle cans with - then after ~60sec of spray (usually 1 coat) I'd rest the cans in the bucket to maintain an ideal paint temp.

obviously adjust for your climate, but when I used ceramic header paint to do up some steelies, they went 3 seasons looking brand new even after chains etc.

Has anyone taken their cars with plastidipped wheels to a car wash and had the people dry off the wheels with towels? Is it instant screw up or does it hold up?

I power wash and brush scrub my wheels every week. They hold up just fine.

3 coats black, around 4 coats of gold metallizer. I know, i know... but the gold took a little bit to perfect. It has a greenish tint to it at first, but it dries to a much more pleasing color.
