Default Prepped my WRX before a 2000 mile roadtrip

Cleaned the car as usual, then applied painters tape to the front to protect it from bugs being splattered all over the front and the little protection from rocks chipping the paint.

After the 2000 mile road trip, the tape looked like a bug war zone.

Tape came off with zero residue left behind.

So, who saw me driving from Chicago to New York on Thursday evening and then New York to Chicago Sunday evening?

Just make sure when you're applying the tape to work from back to front. Do it this way so the tape will not peel back with speed and overlap just a little.

Matches the blue pretty well. Seen a bunch of others that look much worse.

Be careful there is a green version which has more adhesive than the blue version

Yes, blue painters tape. There's also one for delicate paint, which I used. Came off very easy and lasted all 5 days and a heavy storm of 4 hours non stop rain while driving through it.

The alternative to this would be to get a clear bra. Spend 300 once and never have to worry about it again! I plan on doing this when I get my new STi

Clear bra lasts about 5 years and causes discoloration in the paint. I'd rather have the front repainted every 5 years than install the clear bra... then again, this is based off of my limited knowledge.

Oh, and $300 is not what I've been getting quoted.

On my 1400 mile trip from montana to california it paid off. Not having to scrub off bugs was worth it alone. Def. will be doing it for all road trips for now on.

+1. I had clear bra once... NEVER AGAIN. (Unless I have a Ferrari or something)

LOL, reminds me of the pics of people wrapping their cars with plastic wrap/duct tape in NYC for the hurricane

Never seen it before, but I get it, like a temporary car bra

Oh, get ready for a ton of people looking at your car on your trip. I almost caused a couple people to wreck because they had to look.

I just got back from a road trip from san diego to michigan to pick up a new Mercedes. Didn't do anything to the front end. All I had to do when I finally got home was power wash the front and it looked perfect after less than 5 minutes. As long as you drive safely and keep a reasonable distance from the cars in front of you, I really do not see the need for the painter's tape. Waste of time and money in my opinion, unless it is a show car with a 10,000+ paint job.
