Default Jaguar CX-16 Production Concept car revealed

Jaguar CX-16 Production Concept car.

This is how you design a front engined, rear drive, SLEEK coupe.

(Subaru's BRZ had better be taking copious amounts of aesthetic notes, BTW)

This car is why the Subaru BRZ should have a high-output version of the EZ36, with a supercharger optional.

If the BRZ 2-liter, for 20K, and the Jag is ~40K and up to start...

A BRZ 3.6 liter, with 300+hp, for ~30K, sounds like a nice middle ground, if the BRZ is even close to as sexy as that fastback 3-door Jaguar is.

THAT would be enough to make me get a beater AWD winter slogger, or two, just to have that automotive artwork in the garage.

Absolute SEX! I officially prefer this over the AM Vantage!

Per video, will be priced in Porsche Cayman territory - something I can actually afford!

Looks beautiful - add the 510HP SC motor and you have a reasonable alternative to a DBS

So far, they are saying V6 and supercharged V6, not based on the AJ-V8, but a new engine design. I somewhat lament that it isn't an inline 6, as the classic XK engine was.

They are saying that it is possible that the AJ V8 also fits... so it might be a future possibility.

It is showing off an 8-speed gearbox (unclear whether torque-converter or automated-clutch), with an integral electric drive motor with a battery power supply for up to 50 miles electric only range, and a KERS boost mode:

Sort of an electric equivalent to a 100hp shot of nitrous on demand, or something.

Supercharged V6 with a sweet-shifting 6-speed manual, without the battery and driveline weight, would be fine for me, in Kyanite Blue Pearl, with Titanium white accents on the front vanes in the side intakes, and the hood and fender vent trims, and other tidy little details. A new Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar sports car.

I'd consider slogging through the winter in a limping old Forester 4-cylinder or something, if it meant that that car was in the garage waiting for me on a nice day. I'd probably stand out in the winter cold just admiring it as it hibernates in the garage in the winter, anyway.

It is a good looking car, but it is ruined in the video for me by that little wire(?) loop hanging down behind the driver's front wheel. Every time it was visible, my eyes were drawn to it! Guess that is what I get for being associated with TV production for the last 35 years.

The whole video crashed at the end for me when he an emphasis to point out that it was just a concept and they would see what happens.

So Hip, I guess you would have to look at it in your garage, because it probably doesn't run.

I am quite certain the majority of design elements in the BRZ were decided long before they had a chance to look at a Jaguar Concept. Besides, this here is a concept, where safety standards mean nothing, development costs be damned, and tooling is just a pipe dream.

Won't happen, and you know why because everyone else has already told you why (and probably best left for a more appropriate forum).

Regardless, that is a sexy coupe but way out of my price range for a 2-seater. Hope it can keep some of that sexiness through to development.

They are calling it a Production Concept car.

I don't think it is that far off.

The KERS system may still be under development, and the V6 might still be in testing, but the shapes and forms of the body, and the lighting, and other stuff is remarkably finished, and looks much more production ready than the idea-concept C-X75, and other pie-in-the-sky concepts. This car probably isn't that far off of production.

And they are saying late 2012 introduction. It can't be that far off, in terms of work left to be done.

This might come to market barely after FR-S/BRZ.

(and I'll keep the BRZ issues for another forum, save one little tidbit of a comment. I have yet to hear a compelling reason, other than "subaru says they aren't going to", as to why they couldn't put a 6-cylinder optional engine under BRZ/FR-S's hood.)

The roofline of the Zagato screams GTR but not much else does. However, you can see cues of each in this car.
