Default Vauxhall urban concept revealed

Quote:
Vauxhall is the latest manufacturer to outline its future vision for affordable personal urban mobility with this radical concept car for next week’s Frankfurt motor show.

The firm describes the as-yet-unnamed concept as having “production potential”, claiming it could “revolutionise urban transport, especially for younger drivers and those on a very tight budget”.

Details are scarce ahead of its official reveal, but Vauxhall says it features two seats in a tandem layout and is about one-third of the weight of a contemporary small car. The concept’s light weight, claims Vauxhall, makes it “agile and fun to drive”.

The concept is powered by an unspecified electric powertrain. This gives it a claimed range of 60 miles and a 75mph top speed. Vauxhall says this is sufficient to make the concept viable for short motorway journeys.

Loose styling inspiration for the concept is taken from Vauxhall’s Ampera extended-range electric saloon, particularly at the front end. One neat design touch is the integration of the door mirrors into the front wings.
A large aerodynamic glass pod houses the occupants and, although not shown, the doors are unlikely to be conventional. The rear two wheels are also housed outboard.

The Vauxhall concept is the latest in a growing trend from manufacturers who are exhibiting urban mobility concepts at the show. Read about the two examples of the Audi Urban Concept that will be on display at Frankfurt. Volkswagen has also this week announced details of its one-seat NILS concept.

Motorcycle tires, huh? What a terrible idea. There's only a tiny contact patch in the center of the tire.
