Default 2009 WRX 371whp/377wtq @21psi/93oct

Bump, Sorry

All,

I want to take my build to the next level, so I need some help deciding what direction I should take my 09 WRX. I was wondering which options (option 1 or option 2) makes more sense or would you go with and why? Also, if you had to change this build, which part of it would you change and why? I currently have the parts below installed, which equates to 371whp & 377wtq on 93 octane on 21psi.

Hey could you post a video of your exhaust? I might be going with that exact setup from IAG as well but I haven't heard a clip. Thanks!

Wow 371 on that thing must be sick! What's your next step from here? I'm getting most of those parts installed next week before my first tune, minus the turbo which I'm undecided on which to buy. Are you totally happy with the 1.5XT-R?

I wouldve expected the 400 mark with this turbo. Maybe because its on 21 lbs boost? Anything past 21 would be asking for internals?? What's the injector duty cycle at with the 1000cc?

Very similar #'s to my 10cm hta68, running about the same psi. Very similar mods, too, except that I have exhaust cams, built internals, and a jdm 6-speed. Definitely fun to have these numbers!

I've thought about the Dom 1.5, but I'd like to make a bit more hp gain over what I have. Not that I can afford a new turbo anytime soon, but at least my engine and drivetrain are prepared for when I do.

Really nice numbers, I was @ 360/380 with the Kamak 20GTX STS, just switch to the 6 star speed BB SS-20GXR Garett/MHI hybrid TD06SL2. Be on soon.

Yea it's pretty fun... But to be honest you will always want more power. My tune is conservative, with only 21 psi with stock MAF and MAP, but I should be able to crank it up a couple to around 24psi which should put me around 390s-low 400s, but I am pretty sure something will break or blow. so to answer your question, my next step is to rebuild next winter so I can fully utilize the Dom 1.5 xtr I want to MAXXXX it to the point where it's on the borderline of just blowing hot air lol... Oh may run E85, undecided still.

You are correct, the tune is conservative with 21psi, if I had cranked it up to around 24psi+ I would have made 400 easy, but as you mention that would require internals, which I don't have yet ;-) I think it's around 34 not sure exactly, but I will post am update.

Sick setup; I saw this when you first posted it...

Have you run into any issues since then? Still running well? How many miles since the bigger turbo? Whats your opinion on this turbo vs. the stock vf52 for daily driving, etc?

Ironstuner- Where in Maryland are you from? I go to IAG as well. I just recently blew my motor and IAG built me a new one. We have pretty much the same setup, minus headers, EWG. I have the Dom 1.5 too, but 10cm housing, not 8 like yours. I am setup with a protune by Jorge, same guy who tuned you. (He tuned my wrx a few years ago, I was very happy with it) Anyways, it will be interesting to see how our #s compare. I also plan to get a race gas tune. The 10cm housing is supposed to be a little bit better top end, so hopefully ill break the 400s whp with race gas.
I also saw you were considering e85? How come? The closest place for me is 30 mins from my house. For that reason alone, I wouldn't even consider it.

You should be able to break 400whp on race gas as long as you aren't scaried to turn boost up. I did 390 whp @ 21 psi with meth/water injection on Dom 1.5 2.4" 10cm. I ran out of injector and the motor had broken ring landing also. I've since rebuild the motor myself and tuning it should continue tomorrow if my tactrix arrives. I'm gonna do 20 psi pump and around 24 psi meth tunes. Maybe E85 once I get it dialed in.

Hey 08sedanwrx, sorry I took so long to reply. I am from Laurel MD. I was considering E85 because my buddy who is tuned on it gets it at a gas station off of route 198. I will verify and get back to you. Also, how did you tune go, do you have any dyno pics for reference?

Hey what's your current setup and what kind of power are you seeing with a rebuilt engine with water/methanol and Dom1.5? Very interested since I am considering rebuilding early next year.

Current setup is
Built motor by me with
Stock crank, rods, and bearings.
Mahle pistons
Tomei cams
PnP intake, tgv, exhaust manifold with GS crossover pipe
Perrin short ram big maf
Gimmick inlet tube
Blouch 1.5 2.4" 10cm
GS 38mm ewg
Full exhaust no cat
ID 1000

Car made 380 whp 380 wtq on virtual dyno weather corrected @ 23 psi then the brand new stage 2 competition clutch slipped. Couldn't handle torque as it let go when I hit full boost in 3rd gear. There is some more left in it as I only ran into knock once at 6500 rpm, the rest of timing map needs to be worked but until I get a new clutch it will have to wait. I haven't turned the meth on yet but when I do it's a CM 7 (10gl/hr) jet @ 225psi with 67 meth/33water.
