Congrats!! It's great to see another Subaru running 8's! I wish that both the P&L cars were around running 8's with us when the NHRA had the sport compact series still running. Would've loved to see

I haven't been on the forums personally in a while, but it seems like more and more people are running quick. Can anyone confirm who the fastest 4 cyl AWD Subaru is? I know Rigoli ran a 8.3 and we have run a 7.9 back in 2006, but I've heard rumors that someone in Greece and the UK are running low 8's now?

Hope to see the P&L cars on the west coast soon

And if I'm not mistaken, Dom Rigoli is the only other Subaru to run in the 7's, and did so with a 6cyl, rwd.

Would like info as we're bringing out our 8 sec street class drag radial car out soon again and I'd like to know where this car stands amongst the others.

Kind of wishing now I didn't sell my 7 sec Suby back in 2007..

I know there's a drag time register somewhere, but I'm too lazy.. or stupid.. to find it.

Congrats again guys for running such an awesome number! I hear people say that Subie's don't drag race, but after seeing these posts.. and all the people still into 1/4 mile racing.. these people simply don't know whats up.

Congrats!

Ali, wasn't that 7.9 pass in your crazy tube/fiberglass front end, Lenco trans build?
This one?

These are probably the Greek guys that you heard about.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2091420

I'd also watch out for Andy Forrest as he's build an EG33 as well now in his GC. He's still shaking things out on his new setup.
he has bigger turbos and this run was at 15 psi on the smaller snails. He's already 8.87 with his old EJ setup.

Extreme tuners in Greece went 8.8 on low boost. The car is supposed to have made 1500hp with more boost.

Nah, the Lenco trans Subaru was a RWD car that we raced a couple times while the AWD car was being finished. I think the best the Lenco rwd car ran was a 8.88. This was a standard body car, not the one in the picture.

Many people have wondered about our pro car, but here's the story. There were literally 4 of them. I'll number them for you.

It's kind of a long story, but it's interesting. In 2004, I started building a pro car for the NHRA Modified class. That's when I did a female driver contest for my winning street Subaru as well, since I was going to drive the new car. 1 week before the NHRA opening race of 2005 in Florida, we realized that the person building our chassis (which I'll leave nameless) built it incorrectly and wouldn't pass inspection. Lets call this car #1. So it threw us into a tail spin. It was required for us compete in the first race to be eligible for a championship and to participate in the 2 race events that had us racing with the big domestic boys (John Force, etc.) in Kansas and Vegas. With only a few days before the opener in FL, we did something crazy! We bought a brand new 2005 STI from Phil Porter owner of Jacksonville Subaru, had it send to West Palm Beach where we were racing and JR (and I apologize as I forgot his friends names) helped us put a cage, parachute, window net, catch pan, and trans shield on it so it can pass NHRA tech and qualify for us to enter the race. YES, a totally stock car with no modifications other than the safety stuff. Obviously we got our butts kicked but we qualified. We can call this pro car #2.

In a mad dash we took one of my other show 2005 cars and made it rwd with a full custom 9 inch rear end, lenco trans, etc., and competed with in only twice, once in Kansas and in Colorado. We built this car and wanted to use it until our new AWD car was being built and finished. I think this is the car your referring to. We'll call this one pro car #3.

Then we finally finished our pro awd car, a whole new car as we had to scrap the first awd one we built. This car was a custom chopped and extended carbon fiber Subaru, single turbo 4 cyl and awd. It weighed 2300 lbs and I was able to get 3rd place in the NHRA Mod class with it, despite all the craziness we had to go thru. So, we'll call this pro car #4. This is the car you have pictured above. It had two front noses on it too, one with a huge hood scoop, then another one with a nicer sleek front end with a smaller non functioning hood scoop.

So, to recap:
Pro Car #1 = built incorrectly and basically trashed.
Pro Car #2 = Totally stock 2005 STI built for qualifying. We still have this car and my shop partner Kevin road races it now. I actually think he wants to sell it and get a new STI.
Pro Car #3 = rwd, lenco trans built to compete while another awd was being created. This car was donated to Officer Tom Gibby and he now has a 2010 body on it with a massive Chevy big block. But it still looks like a Subaru. I actually ran it last year and on a bad pass it ran 8.8's I think.
Pro Car #4 = Finally a real awd (4eat) 4 cylinder, that ran well. Carbon body, full chassis, about 2300 lbs. on four 28 inch slicks. This ran 7's a bunch of times and won 3rd place in the NHRA mod class the first year. After NHRA cancelled the sports compact series, we sold the chassis/body to Australia. This is the car you have pictured.

Wow sorry for the long post, but now everyone should know the boring story from 6 years ago.

its not subies dont drag race.....its subies on the west coast dont drag race.

how many 9 second subies on the west coast are there? compare that to all the west coast shop that do time attack. Seems every shop has a road race car, but esx is the only one i recall having a 9 sec car.

I believe this is the registry you were looking for, but it hasnt been updated in 3 years

Thats because we don't have any tracks. They all keep on getting shut down. Fontana won't be there much longer at this rate.

ESX, do you guys have a working drag car at this point? It looks like you trashed the first one, #2 is "stock"? #3 was donated and #4 was sold.

I knew that was coming. I almost posted it myself. Well not the stomping part.

I don't think they have the pro car anymore, and the other car wont stand a chance once we finish turning it up

It will be nice to come close to the 7.9 time with essentially a stripped STOCK chassis car though.
I know all this fun talk is motivating Mr.SaintLucia to switch to that turbo we were talking about and really leaning on it.

BTW.. That greek car made "1500whp" and the Evo made "1800+whp" but like we keep telling them on EVOM.. What do they run? 8.8s with 1500whp is kinda ****ty.. They post up nice pics and dyno charts though

In all fairness and not knocking the JR tuned cars, the greek guys ran on absolute **** for tracks. No rubber down, minimal vht.

I think we are close we left about 200hp on the table and have 1.2's ready to unleash for the 60 fts, and some special sauce we haven't even used yet.

What would it take to convince you guys to bring that killer out to etown next month? I've run at both GL and Etown and you'll pick up a few tenths just from the track and conditions at Etown.

Settle down Johnson. We are just having some fun, Ali knows it... He called us earlier.

On that note, the 1/8 on that run would net a low .50s high .40s.. Then we turn it up another 150WHP.. and when that gets us .15s/.20s we spray it .. We turned it up roughly 150hp and picked up 10mph and over 1sec to the 1/8th. At these ets I expect the rest of the hp we have with boost to get us at least 1/2 sec and another 5-6mph.

BTW.. Dont I always do what I say I will

I hear both coasts have been asking for PnL to show up this season. I too am trying to pressure the owner into packing up the crew, shop toys and heading out to some of these races.

But as the owner, Paul said... "when you have a shop with 25+ cars waiting for turbo kits, engine swaps, built autos/manuals and basic bolt-ons, its hard to justify shutting down the shop and delaying the customer builds for your own personal entertainment/enjoyment".

I can definitely understand not shutting the shop down for some smaller events. If they were going to do it, they should do it for something like Imports vs. Domestics at Maryland International Raceway in Nov. You would never regret shutting down for a few days to make the trip, plus if you want to go fast this is the place to do it...

I think the reason we like road racing over here is because its a bit more fun then drag racing, that and.....

east coast boyz have moar $ fer thair karz to go through all the trial and error building motor/heads and all the other custom fab and mod work to get 8's and low 9's.

I personally dont think it takes very much to go high 9's, 10's all day in one of our street driven everyday cars, not much $ anyways if you do it right, anything under that I guess would just be weight reduction and a bit more power
