Default head gasket repair stuff-worth a try?

i think i might have a slow coolant leak. probably head gasket. sometimes when i park i smell a burning smell, and sometimes see steam/smoke/whatever. the heads seem to have some moisture but they're not wet-wet. it think i'm going to try some of that head gasket repair, pour it in type of stuff. thoughts? reccomendations?

i'm at 206k and realize a new timing belt/HG should be put in, but for now it's just not too convenient.

i would never put that stuff in my engine. i have replaced headgaskets before that someone tryed that stuff in. then i have to replace the radeator and heater core also because it is cloged up...

so if this was a poll. my vote would be NEVER!!!

I had the same issue, a little smoke, a little moisture, losing coolant, I had thought maybe a head gasket too but it turned out the clamp on the upper rad hose had ripped through.

you would never be able to tell because the rip was so small (and under the clamp) it would only leak under load. so sitting there and waiting for it to leak won't do you any good.

start with the cheapest/safest first. check the upper hose by the clamp. and to fix it I got a gear clamp instead and clamped a little further down the hose so I didn't even have to replace it

I used blue devil. It works but it does leave small blue rubbery chunks floating through the coolant system

Dont ever use that stuff!
its basically gunking up your system, if you find to time to do a propor headgasket job, theres going to be gunked coolant in your system, you really want that?

Coolant leaks are common aren't they? Like people have their rads go, or I guess the hose. There's also the coolant tank. Those cheap plastic boxes leak and drip onto the engine and burn and create white smoke from under the hood that you can see when stopped. Just an idea.

Subaru coolant conditioner. Guess what it is? Waterpump lubericant + stopleak.

Subaru says use it. I agree.

However I do say DO NOT USE GENERIC COOLANT SYSTEM STOPLEAK. Youre asking to get screwed.
