Default Video: Nissan GT-R wins Motor Trendís 11 sports car drag race, Ferrari 458 Italia win

Quote:
Supercars and sports coupes are my favorite segment of any segment out there. So you can images the excitement I had when I heard that CARandDRIVER was lining up 11 of the worldís most desirable supercars for a side-by-side drag race.

The list includes some of the most exciting cars out there including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Audi R8 GT, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lotus Evora S, Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and even the BMW 1-Series M Coupe. Including many others, that a combined 82 cylinders and nearly 5,000 horsepower Ė wrapped in $1.5 million of beautifully sculpted aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber skins

So who won the drag race and came out on top? The $89,950 Nissan GT-R. Thatís right the Nissan GT-R was showing its rear-end to the $225,325 Ferrari 458 Italia, the $198,000 Audi R8 GT and the $200,00 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

Even though the Nissan GT-R won the race, the Ferrari 458 Italia won Motor Trendís 2011 Best Driverís Car.

The only car we feel that is missing from this gang that deserves a spot in this battle is the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe.

Why a Z06 corvette instead of the ZR1? Why the mustang boss and no 500GT?

4WD can give some great starts but look at the trap speeds.

That was awesome. Yea there could be better cars, but this race was about available sports cars, not exclusive limited number cars.

Cool to see the times expressed as carlengths and see the gaps widen and/or narrow to get an idea how quick the cars are relative to each other.

458 Italia and LFA sound soooooo sexy. Music to my ears. The GTR is simply a stunning vehicle. Just saw the Top Gear tonight where they had it on with the new Jag. That car is a brute.

The GT-R wins the drag race. The Z06 kills at track race. Both cars cost less than half the Ferrari and the 458 wins? Now I would choose the Italia over the other two as well if money were no issue, but for my hard earned green backs the Nissan and the Chevy FTW. The Z06 makes a very compelling argument as a used car.

I know that these are supercars and sports cars and money shouldn't matter but, in the real world, it does.

The YouTube comments were right, in that a Veyron would have been fun to see...........but only because it would have smoked them all. So for that reason, perhaps not as entertaining! (That, and I'm sure they aren't easy to come by.)

Very fun video!

It wasn't a real-world, bang-for-the-buck comparison, it was about which they felt was the best driver's car. Money plays a small, small role in this kind of comparison, if at all. It was among the fastest cars (marginally behind both the GT-R in straightline acceleration and the Z06 around the track, though the Z06 has barely street-legal race tires) while being the most exciting to drive. The fact that they said it actually rode more comfortably than the GT-R was also interesting while surely contributing toward their decision.

I'm pretty sure they just looked out to the MT parking lot and said "we should drag race all those cars we are testing".

End of story, don't over think it.

I'm just glad that they did it.

But a ZR1/GT3RS4.0 or GT2RS/Superleggara over R8GT/ and a Camaro SS in there (to put it in perspective for all the owners that think the car is soooo fast); would have made some comparisons more interesting.

While I admire the GT-R for its amazing technology, I just do not want one.
Nissan did a great job of keeping Godzillas teeth with the R35, but something about it is just not for ME in particular. Which is sad, as it is probably the only car on that list I could ever afford to buy new! HAHA

I will happily take a used 911, or a jag E type.

I thought it was proof that if you disregard the driver you can make a car very fast and somehow still boring. Nissan is hardly the first to accomplish this feat, but with the GT-R they did take it to a new level.
