Default Roof Rack marks

Hi all,

I didn't use a lot time to find if there were any similar post. Forgive me if there are other ones.

So, I removed my roof rack and found out that the plastic mark got on the rail of my roof. It felt like a permanent mark, and I have difficulty to get rid of it.

Any tips?

Thanks all...

I took mine off for the first time today and after 10k miles, there was a mark under the dirt too. I used a medium compound and my buffer around 1500rpm and it took the lines off. I followed that with a coat of wax to seal it up.

Hope this helps.

next time you can also get a sheet of protection film (like what they use for clear bras) and cut out a section that will sit under the feet of your roof rack so that the feet don't touch the paint.

That is what I plan on doing for mine

I have indents from where they used to be installed. Anyone got any ideas for that, besides replacing the molding.

If the marks are too deep to cut out with a compound, you could try wet sanding that area with some 2000 or 2500 grit to even the clear coat out.

Be careful with wetsanding, Subaru paint is soft and relatively thin. I'd try some Scratch x if you don't have a DA or Rotary buffer. About $8-9 for a small bottle, helped make some of my scratches less noticeable.

if it's just plastic, acetone will get it out. Since it's black you'll want to wax it afterwards. it would be easier to diagnose your problem if you posted a picture.

I picked up a roll at Pep Boys. Its the only place i could find it. The only roll I could find was 5 1/2 inches X 12 foot at $20. In the same section as the pinstriping and such.
