Default Cobb AP V1 - Catless/Catted Downpipe Shorty?

With Cobb's Stage 2 OTS would it be safe to run a catless downpipe?
Cobb says to use a catted one, but has there ever been any issues? I've heard it causes boost spikes, is this true?

I read the DP FAQ but I'm not sure if I could run a shorty DP with the Stage 2 tune. Can I keep the stock cat on and just run a catless DP with Cobb Stage 2?

I don't want to gut the uppipe. Can I keep that part stock?

Will MPG get better with the tune as compared to stock, as long as I stay out of boost?
