I had alot of fun tuning Chris's car today, partly because I felt like a doctor doing it

With such a setup, there was significant "noise" in the motor. After scaling the low voltage range and dialing in WOT fueling, I began thowing some boost at the car. The Utec would inconsistently pick up 2 counts, flashing the engine light.

No matter the ignition timing, boost level, or AFR, noise was in and out every few pulls.

Now, I have seen a few "false knock" cars live short lives in the past. I did not want to be that guy to take such a machine into my hands, and dumb down the knock sensor assuming that the noise was false.

I told the owner, Chris, we needed to use Det-Cans.

Chris got the equipment, mounted it to the block, we switched over to opensource, and on we went to making some power.

Im sure Im leaving some info out, but Chris will probably chime in. I think at the end of the day, though happy, he was regretting not going with a better rod. I had 15 gallons of race gas on me, 650whp on the stock 16bit would have been a cake walk

I cant wait, next week I'll be down in south florida tuning a few more setups just like this one + a few stg 2 cars.

Enjoy Nasioc, and happy Halloween

-Mikey

He wants to go to ATCO. This setup is very similar to Jays05, who made 545whp when Junior tuned him. He went 10.7 @132, with a chitty trans. This thing will do 145ish in 4th, it should hall some major ass.

Nice job guys, I heard a guy saying that a car with 280 cams either kelford or gsc, is difficult to drive in the streets. That the car has to be rev to 3000rpm to get it moving, is that correct?

it sounds

Thanks for the comments guys

Juan,

Having to rev the car to 3k to get going is not true at all. In all honesty, its not even close. The car takes off from a light as a stock car would.

Difficult drivabilty.. only if the basic tables in the ROM were touched upon and nothing else.

When I first got to the car, it would not hot start, or hold an idle for very long. It would stall when coming to a stop also, pretty much at every light and stop sign. Cranking tables, Warm up enrichment tables, per injector comps all had to be adjusted so that a good start up and idle was achieved.

A chit ton of maf tabbing was performed to scale the 3" blow thru perfect. I scaled the maf a week ago and it came to the dyno with corrections ranging from 3.1 in the A range to .2 in the C range.

Also, being a 16 Bit ECU, I initially half-maf'ed the car but had to end up 1/4 maf'ing in the end

If you put time and effort into a car like this, as did chris with the motor and myself with the tune, good results can be acheived with such a machine via ECU-Flash and RomRaider.

-Mikey

I dont think its as severe as that but its not fun.
My car bogs at anything under 2500 rpms whether trying to get moving or already moving. It actually really kinda sucks with the PPG's because the gears are so long.
Between the clutch, cams, and transmission its not easy but its not hard either. Its more than worth it for the benefits.

Btw, are you able to get this car to not throw a cel? Idk if its the cams, injectors or w/e but my car always throws a code. It idles rough at first start up then the cel comes on.

Chris u have BC 280s they are quite more mild than the kelford 280s or GSC 3s, I blame ur problem in the tuning. Mikey will get u r beast running perfect .

Mikey, would u recommend the kelford 280s for a DD like my car?

Yes I know, but I am sure drivability is very similar between the two.
