Default 2012 Rough Stage 3 Mustang Hyper-Series gets up to 540-hp

Quote:
Roush has a knack with Mustangs that only a few other tuning companies can match, which is why their latest vehicle package will very much interest fans and owners alike.
The Roush Stage 3 Hyper-Series vehicle package is more than just skin deep. As usual, the 2012 Mustang receives three unique paint options: Mat It Mango, Gas It Green, Punch It Purple and Launch It Lemon. Sounds like a bit of a beach martini bar. With the special colors come unique decal designs and stripes and bespoke interior appointments like suede door panels, shift boot stitching and custom shift knobs.
Under the hood lies a new TVS 2.3L ROUSHcharger that bumps the 5.0L V8 up to 540-hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Also fitted are custom ROUSH-calibrated shocks and other suspension bits, both of which lowers the ride height and allows the Mustang to achieve up to 1 G’s in lateral force on a dry skid pad.

“The 2012 RS3 Mustang has been a big hit with our customers and enthusiasts. Not just because of the RS3′s power and handling performance, but also because of the 288 graphics and paint color combinations that can be selected,” said Gary Jurick, VP and General Manager of ROUSH Performance. “The Hyper-Series introduces four spectacular and unique graphics and interior colors that provide a customized appearance to the RS3.”

Gone are the days when 540 horsepower was noteworthy or justification for a label like "Hyper series." I'm impressed that they could strap a 2.3L blower to a 5.0L and only get 540. What's it pushing, 4 or 5 psi?

That's not particularly impressive. My '03 Cobra was within spitting distance of 500 bhp using the stock Eaton blower -- stock pulley, no tune. And it was 4.6L. 540 from a 5.0L with a twin screw 2.3L blower is ... well, sad.

I love seeing these high hp, over priced "special" Mustangs at the strip where the owners can't trap any faster than a stock GT.
