guessing 5-eat or 6-spd mentioning the trans cooler...but I'm really thinking it's a 5eat.

FYI: The EJ257 for that year is a stock Legacy motor. There is no swap... It's already present.

Same thing with my FXT. Applicable info for 04-05, but not 06+ year cars.

It is a swap considering the motor was originally in an sti and was swapped in

It's the same motor. It's not a swap in the upgrade sense... You literally just replaced the motor with the same thing it started with.

My Forester uses the same calipers as an 05 WRX. I put new calipers on, I don't say 05 WRX caliper swap!!!

^^^Matt but in the LGT world, they consider it a swap if they've gone to the non-flanged turbo and traditional cast manifold of STis and earlier WRXs.

Not sure if he did that or not.

They call that an engine swap!? I'd call that an intake manifold swap...

I think he did, if it's the PO I'm thinking of he at least went with the non-flanged turbo.

So you are saying this is an EJ255 motor or EJ257 that happen to come in the 05/06 LGT's?

you're just missing what he's saying and he's being Matt

He's stating that the legacy GT block and heads that were in that car originally are the same thing that is an EJ257.

yes but if you pulled up the PN's for the shortblock or heads of the time, they are the same. The EJ25 '5' or '7' refers to complete engine, not as we talk of them as on the forums....or so goes my understanding of the Subaru nomenclature. Now the EJ255 is revised with different rods, pistons and heads.

I'm still digging the JDM front end for the 05-07

I am aware its not an upgrade therefore its not mentioned as upgraded in my thread, I know the differences aren't worth mentioning, I'm just being honest and saying its not the original engine and the vin will show its from an sti, and yes the intake manifold was swapped over as well

What about the different pistons/rods, compression ratio, etc. between the 255 and 257?

look at he part number. 'EJ255' is some nasioc colloquialism to simply mean a LGT, FXT, or 06+ WRX engine.

However if you actually knew that it meant simply that, you'd know you'd need to look at the part numbers for different model years, HENCE where this topic began. Go look up the part numbers and answer your own question since you don't want to read what I wrote

/threadjack of teaching people about part numbers of the early LGT (with B25 heads) being the same as the STi.

good luck with the sale

I realize the 255 came in the 06+ WRX, FXT, and LGT but it seems like you guys are saying that the swapped ej257 in the OP's LGT is in fact an EJ255 or his EJ257 is the exact same thing as an EJ255 which they are not

aretard, they are...the EARLY LGT came with EXACT same part numbers as the STI. B25 HEADS, CAMS, SHORTBLOCK

Just verify, I have B25 LGT engine that I tore down in my garage from my brother's 05 wagon. Sure nuff, same internals as an STi...which I had already torn down. Even degreed the cams to check.

the 06+ WRX is the D25 head and different shortblock. For the LGT 06 was an odd year where it switched mid year. I believe the same for the FXT. Not to forget, the Baja had the same base engine as the STi as well.

you = arguing with the wrong guy about EJ engines

Ok, I'm pretty sure I made things pretty clear that the PN were the same in the early LGT as the STi of the time.

BTW there is a reason I'm subscribed to this thread other than to clarify the part numbers in an 05 LGT

If you parted out all the performance upgrades except for the FMIC and catback, what would you let it go for?
If you want to PM me, please email me instead. I can't keep up with the engine questions I get and thus the PM box is always full
