Default Access Tuner race wideband, serial to usb

I have an aem uego and access tuner race, I have wired the uego for a 9pin serial connector, now I would like to log the wideband with my access tuner software. Do I need to get a serial to usb adapter cable to plug into my laptop?

Yes, you will need a serial to usb converter and you will need to install the drivers for that device.

Similar question, I have a zeitronix zt2 wideband unit, and I want to datalog AFR, Cobb instructions call for a usb serial converter to connect the ATR (laptop) to the car, why I cannot connect ATR to the OBDII via a usb cable? What is this ATR cable Cobb is taking about?

Basically I dont understand step 3 in Cobb's instructions below, AccessTUNER is software that resides in my computer, why instructions say to connect ATR to my computer via cable?

How to get your Zt-2 to connect to the AccessTUNERTM Professional or Race software v1.00

3rd. Connect your AccessTUNER cable to your computer, either to your designated serial port or through a USB-Serial converter.

My setup is as follows:

SAMSUNG notebook with no serial ports, a serial to usb converter to connect the Zt2 to the notebook, a usb cable to connect ATR to the APV2 dongle.

I am going to guess that step (3) was copy/pasted from the verion 1 AP manual, when they had a serial port on the device.

That makes a lot of sense, Cobb wrote the instructions back in 2008 whe the APV1 was still current.

Bump How to setup the APV2, ATR and ZT-2 wideband to log. Cobb instructions seem outdated for APV1, no?

Thanks

For a V2 or V3 AP:

To setup ATR for a ZT-2 [while ATR is not connected to the ECU] go to the drop down menu: Edit-Configure Options. When that window opens, click over to the end of the tabs where your ZT-2 is and select "enabled". Go to gauge list / log list tab(s) and choose which ZT-2 parameter(s) you want.

Connect the AP to the OBDII port with the OBDII cable
Connect the AP to the laptop with a USB cable
Connect the ZT-2 to the laptop however you need to [serial-USB converter, USB, etc.]
Start ATR and connect to the ECU
Bring up the dashboard and see what you get - you should have what ever ZT-2 parameter(s) you chose along with what ever else you put on your dashboard.

The wideband guides are pretty old - there will be some references to usb to serial converters which you can ignore with any modern PC. The only converter you would need would be serial to usb in the case of some widebands.

V8, did you ever get the wideband to log? You will need the port # to see where the computer is reading it from. ATR kept freezing and crashing on me because it was looking in com port 3 for a device that was attached at com port 5. You can find it in Device Manager and then manually enter it in the Configuration Options in ATR for the ZT. It should work then. I'm doing the same song and dance with my LC-1 but my outputs are way off so I need to investigate either a ground issue or a calibration issue.

To recap, ZT-2 works with AccessTuner, if your computer does not have a serial port you need to purchase a USB-serial converter cable.

I have this one.

Click here to set-up the com ports on ZT-2 and ATR, mine is COM3.

Then follow this order:
  1. Open ZT-2 to make sure your USB/serial adapter is working, you will see live data displayed.
  2. CLOSE ZT-2 (most important step), if you don't close ZT-2 software the ZT-2 data will not show on the ATR screen, you will not be able to log ZT-2 data.
  3. Connect AP-OBD dongle and cable to car and computer.
  4. Connect ZT-2 to computer (if your computer is recent you will need the adapter I mentioned before).
  5. Engine to ON position
  6. Open ATR
  7. Go to ECU
  8. Go to Data Logging (Ctrl-D)

I have spent hours trying to make this work, you have to follow this order at least for Windows 7.

Here is a log integrating ZT-2 Lambda and ZT-2 Boost (columns Q & R) with AccessTuner Race other parameters, it makes the tuner's job much easier as you are providing one log file.
