Default Where to start with custom tuning

Hello all, i am a student currently going to school for automotive technology and electronics, i have always been interested in getting into custom tuning and possibly using Accestuner software from cobb with my accesport. I have a good base of knowledge, but i just am wondering how the best way to get an intro/ way to learn how to get started in doing some custom mapping. I understand the dangers associated with it, but i dont plan on doing anything drastic or putting any maps i alter on my car until i master it, i just am committed to learning and was wondering the best ways to start.

Thanks for your help!

Best place I learned everything cars was Formula SAE. Almost every major university has one. Otherwise, make friends with a local tuner and ask to sit in on a session. Offer to bring grub/drinks and you should be all set. You don't want to start by playing with your own car.

^^ bingo. I have a few customers who had sat in on a tune session so they can have an idea of what I'm changing and why. I don't mind someone seeing how I do things, I feel it gies the client an idea of what is involved in their $400-$500 tune

i'm in the same boat, however i'm quite a bit deeper into my career as a technician. currently i'm a master tech, but really would love to expand my range to tuning as well. i'm becoming well versed with ATR, and would be totally into sitting in at a tuner shop. just need to find some in snj.
