Default Exhaust q for California ppl

Hey, going to move to roseville Cali in a month from FL. How do you guys achieve stage 2? I do realize NO dp aftermarket are legal so it comes down to changing the dp back before smog or have a friend for visual, Or never going stage 2? It has me really bummed so how do you all do it? Especially you guys like me that use your cars daily!!

You answered the question yourself, most people swap back, have connections or take the risk and smog with it

If you can find a "friend" to help pass the visual you're good.
Otherwise, it's aftermarket dp off and stock dp on before smog. It's a pain but not that big of a deal.

Uhhh...just buy a downpipe. And switch back every time for smog. The dp only takes like 40 mins to swap...

Then you have a cat that won't ever die.

California is every two years for emissions. Taking your downpipe off every two years is nothing.

Can't the chp inpound ur car for inspection? ( I'm cattless).. And my car being a 12 I heard new cars there don't have to get inspection for 5 years? Me being out of state does that not apply? I think it's the smog abatement fee.

I forget how it works out, I moved there for a short period with my thirteen but then moved again before going through any of that. I know there is a special section just for that scenario though.

No I'm not, I give you all my respect and thank you sir! I work in the medical field. I'm thinking just going back to the stock downpipe and calling it a day returning back to my stage 1 tune from TP this car is my daily driver and I hardly ever get on it anyways so...

Normally it's 6 yrs but If you're going to register your car in Ca from out of state, you have to smog your car. Regardless of age. ( work for AAA) lol

put the stock one on with stock map, smog, throw the DP on with stage 2 tune and throw a 3 in resonator somewhere where it fits maybe. I think that may quiet it down enough to where you dont get too much attention (but you are driving a subi wrx how do you not get attention =P)

^ It may not be necessary to flash back to the stock map (even with the stock downpipe).
I have been driving for almost 2 years with stock downpipe and stock midpipe with a custom tune and a VF43.

OP should check out this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2517289

I just got here myself from Washington. (Previously military) I have Virginia plates, and don't need to worry about emissions, or registration for three years at a time. I have been lucky I guess, no cops have stopped me. I am catless, turbo back Invidia N1 race, FMIC, BOV, etc... Its loud as hell, as my tag says... I live in Agoura Hills right now, but moving to Rancho soon. Hopefully they are nice to out of state platers! LoL. Well, hope to see you all out there... Cheers!

So, yes just like every one has said its the Biannual swap for us, however.

I have rolled in to smog shops for non "special testing" with Cobb OTS stage 2 and VF39 swap maps and custom maps on a stock downpipe and their macheins cannot see that the maps are altered, the only thing those macheins care about is if the OBD readiness codes have come on and that takes anywhere from 50-100 miles after your reflash or reset the ECU, unless you use OS or Accesstuner Race to force the codes on right away.

If you fail smog it will show up on carfax and similar services.

Also the keep in mind the penalty for a aftermarket performance catted and non catted DP are the same if caught.

The last thing, is no aftermarket cat will ever pass in california unless it indicates 50 state, the reason they are cheap and dont cost +$1000 like OEM ones is they do not contain platinum in the core, therefore will not reduce the NOX numbers, so dont think well if i get a catted pipe and just pay someone to look the other way on visual its gonna pass because it wont if they test for NOX.

No yeah I'm going to just throw the stock downpipe back on I think the torqued performance stage 1 map was plenty enough for me being that like I said I never tracked the car its just afun daily driver. But what you were saying about the time frame after the map is flashed let me get this straight if I flash the map I'm good to smog the vehicle 150 to 200 miles after the flash has been set or should i smog the vehicle right after flashing a stage 1 tune for example.

Further how were you stage do with a stock downpipe? Very very interested!!

I'm "stage 3" with a stock downpipe and stock midpipe (VF43 + 3-port EBCS + TMIC + 2.5" straight-through Prodrive axleback).
Spool is a bit slower (I could increase WG duty a little bit to compensate for it if I wanted to) and ECU pulled some timing up top after 5.5K~6K RPM (that's to be expected).
Overall, power delivery is still good and the car does not feel significantly slower; there's still more than enough power on tap.
At the same time, the car is pretty quiet and I don't even get a second look from LEOs.

I was supposed to unbolt the stock downpipe and bolt my aftermarket downpipe back right after passing the smog check but I never did. This was 2 years ago and now I'm due for smog again in October. So, I'm not even going to bother .

So Cobb and tp maps with stock do should not create issues when inspecting. Or should I reflash my stock maps.
