Default catback fitament

Guys, I am trying to findout if a catback from a 1998-2001 impreza 2.5rs will fit the 2002 2.5RS, or are the bends and hangars and all that stuff different.

thanks,

dan

They will fit fine after you relocate one of the hangers on the axle back. You should be able to get any exhaust shop to do this.

Default relocating hangars

hi, to relocate a hangar, welding is required, right?
Is all they do is remove the hangar and weld it to a different location?

thanks,

dan

You probably could get by without the one hanger. It's the third hanger on the axle back section, on the pipe just in front of the muffler. The two hangers at the back of the muffler, combined with the midpipe flange should be enough support, IMHO. Especially if you had some Kartboy or Cobb urethane hangers on the two rear hangers of the muffler and one on the midpipe hanger, I think it would be fine.
In addition, I noticed that my Stromung muffler is significantly lighter than the factory muffler so the stock hangers are already more than enough.

Default hookup

I forgot to ask guys-- will the bends in the pre-2002 rs correspond to the 2002 rs bends? I mean, are there going to be issues about clearing the rear axle or what not? Also, how do I hook up a catback to the stock piping-- do i need some kinda flange if the diameter piping is different? Is that all somethign I can do, or once I get the pre-2002 catback, is it best to have someone istall it how is a mechanic or whatnot.? Please let me know.
