Default iPhone 4s BT pairing issue

Since none of the other threads tackle this... I thought I would bring it up. Has anyone else had issues pairing their 4S to the 2011+'s? I had/have a brick of a 3GS now that never had any issues. Just got the new iPhone yesterday...and it doesn't even see the bluetooth in the car. Anyone heard/seen similar - or am I being a total douche and missing some huge step that I forgot / dont see in the manual?

Thanks, and flame on if you feel like flaming.

I head it was something with the iPhone firmware, I thought there was a thread about somebody have problems with an iPhone 4, but obviously your firmware would be up to date, and Apple should release a new firmware soon, but if that doesn't fix it, I believe I remember reading that the dealer has to flash it.

I'm glad somebody else brought this up. I've been pairing and deleting my phone over and over again. I had no issues at all with the updated iOS on my iPhone 4. It must be the new 4s.

iPhone 4s is the FIRST phone ever to use BT 4.0.

Most phones currently use BT 2.1 or 2.2.

iPhone 4 = Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless technology.
iPhone 4s = Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.

Something is going to need an update before it works.

My 4S is synching with no issues - however it is not automatically connecting every time I start the car - still working on this issue will update soon...

My 4S suddenly started to cycle between detached and attached last night after working flawlessly since I got it on Friday.

This is using the iPod interface for the 08 standard head unit...

going to restore the software and see what happens

I'm having the same issue with the 4S and my 2011 WRX. Won't reconnect when I start the car. The initial pairing doesn't seem too bad, but placing a phone call is pretty bad. At first the other end won't be able to hear me, then it just stops working altogether.

I checked the Apple forums, and there seems to be no solution thus far.

Hey gunkadoodah, you are close enough to 1 Infinite Loop, go camp out at their front door and get an answer tomorrow Actually my wife works for Apple here in Austin, TX she might be able to get a word in with the engineers...stay tuned...I'm sure it's going to be fixed in a future iOS 5 update.

For some having BT issues, the car is likely looking for your old phone as your primary BT device. Make sure you removed all references to your old phone in your stereo before attempting to pair the new phone. Otherwise, you'll have to manually pair it everytime you turn on the car. I have no idea if this is a similar issue with BT v.4 or not.

On a side note, iOS 5 on a standard iPhone 4 now displays Artist, Album, and Track info when using BT-A. Kinda neat.

WAY COOL!

I just finished updating my iPhone 4 to iOS5 and after I saw this I had to run out and see it for myself.

Bluetooth SIG updates are standardized backwards compatible. He won't get the perks of a 4.0 BT sys (lower power consumption, etc.), but he won't lose the perks of a 2, 2.1, 3.0 system because he's on 4.

Wish it would transmit Pandora info... I'm thinking a Pandora update could fix this though.

Good to see that not2fast has it hooking up with no issues. not2fast, did you do anything specific, or it just worked?

@sizemic: the only reference i could remove was the "delete memory" function in the BT menu. nothing else. i did that many times, but still many problems with the connection.

nothing special..
just went through the setup verbally.
I do have an idea though...do you have a case on your phone?
If you do, try without it for the pairing.

Are you pairing with the BT Audio side or the Phone side?

Yes, but I've seen people try to do just the audio side. Which is why I ask.

For the initial pairing process, I select the CAR_M_MEDIA from my iPhone and punch in the access key. Once it's paired, I tried both ways, but it only works if I go from the BT Audio side. On top of that, I must connect within ~10 seconds of turning on the car, otherwise the BT Audio menu says "Unavailable" or something like that.

So it just doesn't work...

Yeah it's meant for Bluetooth enabled MP3 players and whatnot.

For those having pairing issues, do you leave Bluetooth on all the time or just when you get in the car?

I leave mine on and it takes around 10-15 seconds for it to auto connect.
