With the possiblity of an STI version coming, I have zero interest in buying the normal BRZ. I would think showing an STI version before the car is even out would hurt sales of the normal one.

If they were dropping an STI version on launch I would absolutely pre-order one.

The STi version is rumored to not be a power bump, but an exhaust, suspension, brake, body and interior (seats) package.

Honestly, within a year you'll be able to get more reliable (and in the case of coil-overs.. adjustable) aftermarket pieces for 1/2 the price of the factory pieces to set the car up as you want to, not as STi wants to.

I'd rather have the car from the get go and let the aftermarket sort things out.

That is just for the BRZ STI concept that is being shown in LA next week. The production STI rumors have no basis at this point. The word you're looking for is 'speculated' not 'rumored'.

Not everyone wants to drop $30k+ on a RWD "fun" car, especially if it's just appearance upgrades and no real performance differences. I'm planning on buying the cheapest possible version of the car, and using the money I save to give it a real engine.

STI are just the initials of the Subaru in-house performance/tuning group. As such, adding the STI treatment to a specific car in the Subaru lineup could mean just about anything from a single racing stripe sticker to an all out engine performance and suspension upgrade, or anything in between those extremes.

Even if there is no turbo version of the BRZ there could be room for a supercharger (which doesn't need extra exhaust plumbing), and possibly a flat-six version (which could raise horsepower by 40% to 50% without the need for a turbo).

Just when we thought there was nothing more to hear about the Toyobaru, the FT-86 Club comes to the rescue with fresh info of a motorsport application. According to a Japanese source, the Subaru BRZ will race in the 2012 Super GT class in Japan, and the way we understand it is that it’s an STI model.

The Super GT series is sometimes know as the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship or JGTC, and is recognized by the FIA. The races take place at famous Japanese venues like Twin Ring Motegi, Fuji Speedway, and Suzuka Circuit. They are held as a single endurance event and the cars are divided into two groups - GT500 and GT300, capped to 500 and 300 hp respectively.

It’s understandable thus that we are dealing with a turbocharged version of 2.0-liter boxer engine that develops 300 hp.

It is if they want to keep a 2.0L motor in there. I highly doubt a DI 2.5L could reach 300hp either.

Yet another person who doesn't understand this car.

If you want 300+hp and awd, buy a WRX STI, puton a turboback, drop in filter, and get an Accessport, done.

If you want a lightweight, great handling, affordable RWD 2+2, you may want to look into this car.

The 2.0l turbo GC will be in the same market as this car, not the v6. This segment will consist of 2.0 GC's, v6 Camaros, V6 Mustangs, MX-5's and Mini's. I could go on, but I have a feeling it still won't matter.

to me the car looks good nice body, etc. but as mentioned before how close will the production model look to the concept. as Impreza concept to the production was pretty significant.

i think Subaru made a big mistake entitling this car with its legendary icon "STI" especially that is is RWD and 200hp. to me when you say Subaru and what Subaru is known for is its AWD cars/suv's. this car/concept should of been just labeled as BRZ, but Subaru must have some kind of rational why they did this. but to me if your going to call something an STI is should equal or surpass the current STI which would be the MY11 STI.

dbc112 is right with a genesis at $26k @ 210hp for the 2.0T premium our equivalent is the 2011 and up WRX with 265hp AWD for 25k.

You are looking for a car with 75% more power, AWD, and 75% more expensive. In other words, you are NOT talking about the BRZ!

If you look at the picture at the top of this page (that is the production BRZ), and these spy shots:
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subaru-brz-spy-shots/
The Concept is VERY close to the real one. The front end barely changes. Just the rear is completely different.

STI is just a division that makes performance parts, similar to Mazdaspeed, M, AMG, SRT, etc. The WRX STI, is an "STI" because it uses "STI" parts to enhance it.

This is a BRZ with "STI" parts.

This is how Japan can have a Forester STI, Legacy STI, Legacy Tuned by STI, "tS" models, etc.

Fuel prices are going up. I thanks Subaru for making this car, without it I will have to resort to some sort of front wheel drive car with a rear beam axle.
