It will not be coming in AWD. From everything that's been put out about the car, they can not do it since they moved the engine down 4.7 inches and back 8 inches. From what I understand the angles are too extreme for the front axles.

As much as i wish it to be true, i doubt the weight of the car is going to be 2500 lbs. If i had to guess i'd say it would be closer to 3,000 than it will 2500. Nonetheless i hope the Sti version stays under 3000 lbs, that would be EPIC!!

The weight of the current BRZ has already been announced at 2762 lbs., it wouldn't take much to decrease the weight another 100 lbs although it would be very difficult to get it to 2500 lbs.

Can't wait to see this car evolve in the next few years... It would be sick with some forced induction.

You will be waiting a long time if you are waiting for one from the factory. Consider the two companies involved and who put up the money for the venture. Now consider the impact to that company. Toyota hasn't produced a turbo'd car in a decade. Despite Subaru's ability to build a decent turbo set up, Toyota/Scion would loose millions if Subaru came out with a turbo platform and they didn't. I just can't see Toyota ever coming around and placing a turbo in the car from the factory. They've said multiple times that they love the car the way it is.

I know everyone would love a car that was 2500 lbs, AWD, 350 HP, handled like a Lotus, got 50 MPG, and cost $15,000. I would too! The reality is, they could never build a car that pleased everyone, if they did all the things that everyone wanted it would be priced out of a decent range.

I like both the FR-S and BRZ for different reasons. I really would like to have heated seats, leather and alcantera, and push button start from the factory, but I'm not willing to pay the premium that Subaru dealers are going to want for the car. I think the Scion is going to be right up my alley since I work for a Toyota/Scion dealership. If I want something I can add it, and I get a discount on parts. The only thing I worried about adding aftermarket is the push button start because I'll have to buy the center consoul piece from subaru to make it look like it came that may from the factory.

I really hope they make a midlevel performance version. (like the wrx is to the impreza line) I don't need a 350hp STi version with big brakes to drive to work. But a 250-265hp (with that direct injection turbo torque curve) midlevel version would be fantastic. Better on fuel and a little easier on the wallet. Not sayin i wouldn't test drive the STi version...

Every 1 horsepower of the BRZ would be pulling around 12.5lbs (Power to weight ratio of .08).

In theory, the BRZ should be faster than a stock 2002 WRX due to it having a higher power to weight ratio. This of course does not take the torque curve and power delivery into effect or any other variables.
BRZ will be faster because of rear(mono)wd after 60 mph.

Actually, the BRZ is closer to 2800 than 2500. With that weight, the power to weight ratios of a stock (02) WRX and stock BRZ are about the same. And it also depends on what you mean by "faster". 0-60? A driver who can properly launch a stock WRX will win because of the AWD. Throw some twists into the road and the stock BRZ will definitely have the upper hand.

Obviously we won't know until the car is tested, but hypothetical straight line acceleration vs 2004 WRX was speculated about and plotted at http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...php?p=36382179 (see post 23).

If its not all wheel drive, its not a Subaru. Hey Toyota, hands off my favorite car brand.

Looks great in everyway, love the stories about wicked handling...but 200hp???? 0-60 in 6sec????

Grantd it will handle well, and have lots of sideways action, and will be fun to drive around bends! But i would miss the power and get annoyed everytime i got smoke by most other sports cars out there!!! an STI without 300hp is no good no matter how good it looks and handle...It's going to get left behind! i mean the genesis coupe 3.8 has 348hp and 0-60 of 5.2! do you want to get smoked by a Hyundai?

Now if they plan to keep the WRX STI with all the power and have this as a second option then thats cool! I will just stick to the WRX STI...if they plan on replacing the current STI with this one that will be very disapointing...

oh just been doing a bit more of the reading...

I was reading Topgear Mag, and they spoke with a subaru engineer and they said first off there was no room left to add a turbo in the engine bay, plus if they pushed up the power too much then the axels would snap and the chassis would twist too much...the rumor or hint by the subaru engineer was that the STI version may have different vavle springs and a couple of tweaks to make it rev more and put out a little more power. They also said that to add lots more power they would have to beef things up to much and it would mess everything up...all rumors put out by there engineers!

now if the above is true this means this is not going to be a mod freindly chassis...

I just have my fingers crossed they will make the STI exceed my current expectations!
