If this IS what's coming out of production, I feel like they're trying to compete with the other 2-door sporty looking non fast cars like the Camaro or Charger LOL!

Here's the most interesting thing i found out.
1st Gear: Subaru Gives Subieyota More Power Than Toyobaru
According to Autocar, Subaru tells them the BRZ will have the lowest centre of gravity of any production car when it goes on sale next summer. The BRZ's rear-wheel-drive configuration has meant that Subaru's itty-bitty 2.0-liter Boxer engine can be mounted even lower in the chassis than would normally be permissible in the manufacturer's conventional four-wheel-drive layout. But the big news is that, despite being co-developed with Toyota, power outputs will differ. The Subaru-spec ECU will liberate the BRZ's power to "less than 300 bhp," compared with the FT-86's 200 bhp figure. We'll find out for sure when we see both the Subieyota and Toyobaru unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year.

Sounds like it'll be a blast to drive. Other Miata fans will know why lol.

Bad on me! funny, I even searched the 2011 specs to make sure there wasn't a change from the 2.5. guess I should have looked at the 2012. figures.

why are they dropping the 2.5l?

Car and Driver's take on it with Subaru's senior manager for engineering.

Quote:
"The price target was the toughest of them all, says Masuda. The base sticker is expected to land at about $28,000. At that price, the engineering team had to resist the allure of weight-saving materials and turbos. “The goal was to keep it basic and make it a real handling car,” says Masuda. “Horsepower was not our focus. If you want horsepower, we have the STI.”
He says how the car is basically all Subaru and Toyota only designed the body.

From my comparisons the FR-S and BRZ are fairly identical except the regular parts most people upgrade anyways. Wheels, Exhaust, suspension, body molding and other aesthetic parts (ie headlight/tail lights).

Currently Suby's dimensions are smaller than the toyota but they are still just estimates so they will change and probably be identical for both.

"This is the world's only front-engine, rear-drive sports car powered by a boxer engine."

this is the only line I don't get as they're both front engine, rear-drive sports car powered by a boxer engine.

I prefer the 18inch wheels to the spec 20's on the FRS. where did i read that. subaru has 18s specd right?

There's no way they'll keep it to 2500 lbs. If they make it heavier, please add more horsepower. 2800 lbs with 300 hp would be okay with me. It doesn't even have to be turbo, a N/A flat six perhaps.

Please remember that the car was designed around an N/A flat-4.

Now Subaru just needs to team up with Nissan and release the 240z again. Possibly with a 2.5 boxer turbo?

This won't ever actually happen, but I can dream...

That's not a typical Subaru power curve. Their N/A engines are usually tuned for more low-end torque and don't like to rev to the stratosphere like some other makes.

I highly doubt the 2500 lb curb weight, too. That's Miata territory, and it's hard to believe they can build a hard-top car that meets safety specs and is that light, unless it's Smart car sized.

I do like the rendering, though, if it's remotely accurate. Offer a model with a more subdued wing and different wheels, and it will probably be a big hit.

I have to be honest here... this is the first Subaru that's looked sexy in press style photos in a VERY long time.

Don't get me wrong I still love my '08 STI... but they looked HIDEOUS in any of the media photos SoA was providing.

I'm very excited to see this happen with the brand. It's about time they actually produced a car that's more sport than utility.

And to the wing haters... This is the first time that a GT style wing has ever looked perfect to me on a car. The early pics without the wing looked out of balance. And those wheels are perfect... they are pretty much standard issue STI wheels, so perfect for the car.
