Curb weight for the JDM Toyota is 2662 or 2711 pounds, depending on trim (though there is also reference to a 2623 pounds racing spec model). Hypothetically, the BRZ could be slightly lighter, but I don't see 2500 pounds happening without stripping the interior.

1. This car is RWD.... Fail.
2. No turbo... Fail.
3. Its not really that fast.
4. The spoler on it looks like something that someone would throw on their Honda Civic

So I believe I will just stick with buying my 2012 STi Sedan

1. Why is RWD a fail? Typically, RWD is more fun to drive than AWD, though AWD is more forgiving and better suited to adverse conditions. With this car's lightweight and low center of gravity, it will probably out handle the heavier WRX and STi.

2. There are already non turbo Subarus, are they also a fail? It has been rumored there may be a turbo version offered later though.

3. See number 2.

4. Agreed. I'm betting it is only for the show car, though maybe it will be an option on the production model. I hope it isn't.

It seems like some people were expecting a coupe version of the existing STi, but that's not what this car was intended to be.

1. It seems weird that Subaru wants to go away from the AWD, but you are right it just slipped my mind that not all their cars are AWD.

2. Yeah I think there will be a turboed one later on, but I am sure this one could be turboed if someone wanted to.

I need to see this car in person before I completely decided if I like it or not.

going away from AWD is an EXTREMELY easy way to gain MPG which all the brands have to do with tighter regs. I think Subaru should have a different "brand" for their 2 wheel drive cars, Subaru's "Scion" if you will...

I think it will be a great attempt at the S2000. lightweight, N/A.. I like it alot. If anyone really enjoys tossing around our 3000lb+ awd drive cars, then goes and drives a miata or something lightweight and nimble and really likes it. I think this will be the perfect momentum car.
Im not sure if this point has been made yet, But out of observation how much of the BRZ platform (subaru/Toyota) is part of the Lexus LFA? I know the LFA appears bigger than it really is but how close are these cars? Could the FT86/BRZ be the same shell with different components drivetrain.

So the point of the car is not something that suits your needs, thanks for your opinion.

I saw this car in person today. It is pleasantly surprising in person (unlike most of Subaru's designs) and I would not have a problem driving this thing daily. For those of you who live in snow and inclement weather, the RWD might be a factor. Otherwise, this is a very decent looking ride from a usually ugly-car making manufacturer.

I think the rwd shocker is why people are put off. Power can always be addressed with reasonable means. It is a hard time to be selling a car that, for many people (and most of the current Subaru clientele) would have to be a toy. I hope it does well, a poor mans 911 is a great concept. But with the wealth gap as it is, this car will require an income level at which an extra car is feasible, but spending 30/40k plus on it is not.

Good thing the price is supposed to be about 25K, which actually pretty darn good for a car of that type.

Its about time they came back with a sleeker looking coupe, a car designed purely as a "handling car", and something not intended to take off the tarmac. I hope the production looks close to the actual concept. Since 06, haven't been a fan of any of the last designs Subaru's come out with.

I said I wouldn't buy another Subaru until they came out with a good looking coupe. I might actually become a Subaru owner again.

while the weight increases and the cost jumps up too...

I think a turbo diesel would be better suited for a wrx/sti where they could make better use of the extra TQ.

As much as I love diesel it has no place in a sporty car. Go look at a diesel torque curve and stop looking at peak values. 300 lb-ft from 1800-2100rpm followed by a rapid plummet to a 4500rpm redline...

All-in-all, to those who are complaining at all about the car, I think are just the type of people who can't adjust to new as well as others. You're called haters :]

As a Miata owner I, unsurprisingly, approve of this car. Also think that san rimo red would look pretty damn good on it.
