Hey guys, tried searching this, but didnt find anything in this region.

Moved across country and got one speeding ticket in Laramie Wyoming. Not even a chance I was doing what he said i was doing but I'll leave it out unless you really need to know

Tried googling and just getting random Lawyer/Attorneys from everywhere.

Anyone used a lawyer in that area?

Thanks, Steve

I would check Cheyenne, better luck there and not too far away.

That's the worst advice I've ever heard.

Also, food for thought, since you're not living there and on top of that, were just passing through, i would forget about beating it. They're going to win.

^Not trying to argue, just a different opinion is all, but I challenged a ticket I received passing through Idaho and won. The officer did tell me he was fishing though and that he just needed to pick which car he wanted to pull over because we were all doing the same speed, but still I won. haha.

It shouldnt really matter if I was passing through or not should it? The lawyer should be able to get it off on whatever basis they find. Been through this a few times. Just real important now because all my tickets will be off by January.

Well I'll give an update just incase this happens to anyone else.

I forgot that I've been a member of a monthly pre-paid legal service, and they were able to assign me an attorney for no charge. His name is James Learned for anyone looking in that area.

I fly out Sunday night for the hearing on Monday. Fun fact for anyone in a situation similar to mine, Wyoming REQUIRES you to appear in court if you contest the ticket. So don't contest unless you wanna fly back.

Doesn't look too good for my situation honestly. He has said that that particular highway is very hard to get tickets to drop. Unlike the well-known "innocent till proven guilty", he says we basically have to prove the opposite. It doesn't make any sense to me at all, but thats the glorious justice system. I'll report back monday after the hearing. (If anyone cares )

You need to understand prima facie evidence and the fact that the cop will present that evidence (be it radar gun reading or even his/her personal accounting of the traffic stop). That is the basis for the charge. You are innocent until proven guilty, but if you can't convincingly counter the evidence presented or at least cast doubt on the prosecution's interpretation of it... the prosecution will win.

Thats what its hinging on right now basically. The officer never said whether i was radar or paced. Very blunt with me when pulled over.

Washington is a completely different state in handling these matters. It's basically: Pay attorney. Attorney goes to court FOR you. They find some silly technicality and its dropped, or changed to some other minor infraction.

I'm only arguing this ticket because I was not going as fast as he wrote me up for. If he gave me a no front plate ticket, exhast ticket or anything along those lines, I would just pay it. Gotta pay to play. I'm not the guy to whine about that garbage.

To be completely honest, I dont know 100% for sure about Laramie, but here in Casper, WY if a Highway patrol or even city cops gives you a ticket and you contest it, 99% of the time the officer wont even show up to testify. DA drops the charges, Ticket dropped, no lawyer, done deal. It's still a 1% gamble though, depends on the officer and your story. Sometimes even if the officer shows up you can negotiate paying the fine to some fund and they'll not put the ticket on your record. Something my friend found out a couple years back.
