Hi there. Unfortunately, the entire intake would have to be identical to the AEM in order to use one the AEM intake maps available for the later model WRX and STis. There are a lot of factors that impact how air behaves around the MAF sensor for a given intake in question including the cross-sectional area of the intake, bends in the piping, filter, etc. If the map is not calibrated for the intake you are using, load will not be calculated properly, which means you will have incorrect fueling and timing (which is obviously not good).

I would read the code and see what it was. May have been an overboost fuel cut. You can get a "system too lean" or "system to rich" DTC when using the incorrect intake, but it usually takes some driving for this to happen and it means things are really screwed up. However, you can still have dangerous fueling issues with the improper intake without any check engine light.

Your options are to:
1. Replace this intake with the stock intake, Cobb SF, or AEM and reflash the corresponding map. For AEM, this assumes you have an 08+ STi or WRX.
2. Get a custom tune from a Cobb protuner for your current intake.
3. Do the tune yourself with AccessTUNER Race which is free for AP v2 users. You'll need to buy and install a wideband o2 sensor to do this.
