Default 2.5 liter STI

OK, OK, I know everyone says the STI won't have a 2.5 liter motor. But word has it (this is the rumor section isn't it?) that we will get a turbo 2.5 legacy. If that is true, the 2.5 tooling would available, the motor would be certified and ready to go. Why not put it in the STI? I mean, just tuning it like the 2 liter would give close to 300 hp, with gobs of torque(a chip would easily yield 350hp!) . Go ahead, flame me, I can take it.......

IMHO, the simple answer is because the 2.5T Legacy rumor is untrue.

the turboed Legacy in Japan is a 2.0L turbo. If we get it here in a couple years, it will also be a 2.0L turbo.

If you really want a 2.5L motor, it's not that hard to build one. Buy a phase II EJ25, close the deck a bit, o-ring the heads replace the pistons and rods with something more appropriate to boost and you've got the potential for really huge power.

The STi won't get a 2.5 for many reasons, one of which is the displacement limit of 2.0 for rally.
