Default Replacing engine with JDM, need advice.

Here's the situation:

My '02 WRX wagon threw a rod Mon. morning (been in a friend's car that did the same thing, so I know that's what it was).

It's go 175k on it, so a rebuild wouldn't be worth it to me. I went looking, and I found a (alleged) JDM 2.0L complete (-turbo, less then 20k miles) for $500. I don't really care if this motor needs a little TLC, as long as it runs. My question to everyone is will this motor bolt right up? I did a ridiculous amount of fruitless searching on the subject and came up with nada. The guy I'm getting it from was originally planning on putting it in his '92 Impreza coupe, but he totalled the car before the swap. He says that it will be difficult because it's JDM, but he wasn't putting it in a WRX.

Also, I have done many motor swaps, but never on a Subaru. Anything special I need to know?

Any other suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I did a jdm 2.5l in my legacy gt. The only thing I had to do was swap intake manifolds because they don't use egr valves over there. Other than that it went right in with no problems

That's good to hear. I was worried that I would hear horror stories about wiring harness splicing and whatnot. If all I have to do is swap intakes I will be so stoked!

What is the engine code? There were a few JDM 2.0L turbo engines - something like 9 IIRC. You may run into some issues with AVCS. There are a few people around here who have done an EJ207 swap - most common one.

Not sure what the code is. I do know that it came out of a '98-'99 JDM WRX. Upon inspection, it looks just like mine, with the exception of the old style intake/intercooler. I do know that it does not have AVCS. It looks like it should bolt right up. The only thing I'm worried about now is whether I'll have to do some tweaking of the harness.
