I don't think it is too harsh on the street, but I have a very high tolerance for nvh and have definitely made compromises in the name of ultimate performance. I really don't enjoy the direct, responsive feel of non compliance bearings, as they really make the car feel livelier and more responsive, keeps your allignment perfect with zero deflection, etc. I really don't think they are too harsh, and really make all suspension movement go through the dampers, which is why I can't wait to upgrade my coilovers to some high quality kw's or jrz's. The spring rates really aren't that bad either, especially for how heavy of a car the wrx is due to its awd drivetrain. I will take some pictures of the front and post them up. So far though the spring rates work, feels excellent and zero rubbing.

Oh and hell yes this beast will be daily driven. I have put too much time, money, and love into this thing not to enjoy it on a daily basis. I am hoping to do an ls swap into my 240sx and turn that into a dedicated track car.

Yeah I got some more, I was waiting to get everything finished up for this stage and do a completed picture, but as you all know these projects never really end. It's been a crazy couple of months with a drastic, but very exciting career opportunity. As a result, I have been unable to do any of the wrench work on my car and needed to switch out some component choices so the car would be street legal in California. So out comes the ATP GTX3071 turbo with EWG and aeromotive fuel rails, and in goes stock rails run in parallel and a Blouch Dominator 1.5. Very excited for this turbo, the guys at LIC and Topspeed are very excited about it. Also have to lose a couple of other items, switching to all black hoses in the engine bay, as the blue ones are a little too flashy for my new sleeper look (no blue tial wastegate for them to match with). Also switching to the Cobb intake system for its carb legal status.

Fortunately, as you can tell by the pic my car is in very capable hands with Adam and Noah from LIC. Very excited to get this round done and decide where to take my car ambitions next, either more Subaru or maybe an ls7 in my 240sx. Definitely puts my little pea shooter in perspective, there is always a car bigger, badder, and more dialed in than yours. Love seeing it in a pic next to the LIC race car, maybe someday I'll get the built block and the rest of the goodies.

Car does look good though....

Exciting things have been going on with the car. A little sneak peak until I get everything done and ready to post. Haven't had much time for the car the last couple of months with a very busy work schedule. But here is a little sneak peak.

Each step the car is getting more and more potent, this should be an extremely fun setup for the street on 91 octane.

Obviously, all the work is being done by Noah and Adam at LIC Motorsports. Huge thank you for all their help and advice throughout the build.

Here's a little pic from LIC motorsports with the engine installed, should be fired up in a few hours to dial in a base map for break in. Obviously, still have things left to be installed, still running my APS TMIC and such, but the engine is in.Running a hybrid sti block with wrx heads (LIC motorsports hybrid block B1.5 shortblock). I will post up details in a bit, excited to get past the break in cycle of the engine and tune for performance. 2.5 liters plus Blouch Dom 1.5 XTR should be a very snappy, fun street setup that will translate well to the track. Very excited to post results.

Huge thanks to Naoh and Adam at LIC for all the hard work and all the extra work with this stage of the build. Very excited to experience the full potential of this setup.

Man your lucky. I'm a do everything myself kind of guy, but if I could have Noah and Levy work on my car I'd pay any amount of money. Nice build and great choice in parts and setup!

Picture of the car about to be fired up at LIC Motorsports. We've done quite a bit of changes to quiet down the engine bay and make it a true sleeper. This is about as stock looking of an engine bay as one can get. Obviously, the air snorkel still needs to be installed, but this should be a super responsive, fun, and decently powerful setup on 91 octane. Excited to get an sti tranny so I can unleash the true power of this turbo as I will be having to reduce some of the power/torque to protect my lil 5 speed, and finish dialing in the couple areas of the car that I still want to improve. I am very excited for the torque of the 2.5 and the ability to spool a larger turbo.

This should be a fantastically fun daily driving setup. I will post more info of what was done and why, as well as power numbers after the break in of the motor is complete. Obviously, I am very excited about this turbo /engine setup, and the top notch work done by LIC. Work to the car finished up last week, and I picked up the car last weekend. Driving around breaking in the engine properly, full power figures will be at 1500 miles.

Because he would have paid $19000 for the car instead of $10000. Then he still would have done all the same mods and have the same out come. Only difference is the $3000 for the 6mt swap, which still doesn't effect the cost enough to matter.

Wow, I don’t check this thing for a day and come back to this. I will try to address these comments in order and then be done with them.

Why didn’t I just buy an sti? At the time an sti was out of my price range. I don’t buy cars in poor condition, and don’t like to buy cars with prior modifications as most people’s work is often poorly executed and lead to substandard results and problems down the road. For a cherry low mileage sti, I was looking at 2005 and newer (to avoid the weak wheel bearings your sti is running which leads to caliper knockback and subsequently poor and inconsistent braking under performance driving). Then I would have wanted dual avcs and the price kept creeping up and made me look at the 2008 and up wrx sti. For the price difference of a gd sti over my wrx ($12,00-14,000) or a 2008+ wrx sti ($14,000 and up) I knew I could make my plain jane wrx faster than a stock wrx sti. I had driven a stock sti, and while fun, still needed some work ($$$) to reach the levels I wanted.

Now the sti (regardless of year) does have some advantages. The most notable to me is the larger displacement engine with avcs on the exhaust, a bulletproof 6 speed tranny, more aggressive diffs with electronic dccd, 05+ has stronger wheel bearings, and upgraded brembo brakes. Here is my thought process, most of those parts I would have wanted to upgrade and swap out, so the only added benefits would have been slightly higher resale of oem parts (but I don’t sell most of my parts so if I ever wanted to I could swap easy parts back to stock if I wanted to). I will be swapping in a 6 speed tranny, but when I do that I will be also installing more aggressive diffs, probably OS Giken or Carbonetic. I wasn’t too concerned about the wheel bearings, as I knew to correct the suspension geometry I would need new adjustable uprights and rear subframe (MSI or LIC) and would use the bearings anyway. Brembo brakes- my Stoptechs are superior to the oem brembo system, and when I do my 6 speed swap I will contemplate swapping to even more effective brakes. OEM sti’s have weak cast pistons that are prone to ringland failure under hard driving, so it would need an engine at some point anyway.

So, in a nutshell, other than the tranny, I planned to upgrade most of these parts anyways so there was no reason to invest in that extra money. I bought the best car I could at the time for my goals, as the wrx is an incredibly fun street car at stage two with a properly set up suspension and brakes. That was my orginial build goal, then I had bigger goals and the build evolved.

So to address your question to being a newbie. First, modify your car for your enjoyment and no one elses. Two, the car is a hobby, never an investment, you lose money when you modify your car. Third, check how you write about someone elses work because you come off as being a lil keyboard warrior referring to my intelligence in your first 3 posts ever on a forum. My car still has deficiencies, but I guarantee they are different deficiencies than an sti. The car prior to the new engine was an incredibly fun street car, and potently fast. With the ej205 it was putting out 80 hp more than a stock sti at the wheels and the suspension was properly dialed, and had a ton more grip than the lil 225 or 245 series tires your sti is running. I think this is about the most professional manner in which I can respond to your comments. My car is not perfect and still a work in progress, but the good thing about the internet is you don’t have to look at it and can go elsewhere to find a car you like.

You must have been laughing your @** off watching me type that up in class. At least it burned up some time. Good one got me fired up in the morning.

BTW way to make me start crying from laughing so much this morning during inspection.

I love it when people come on the Internet, run their mouths, end up looking like asshats and then delete their comments like that erases their stupidity. You can't fix stupid.

Great looking car man, can't wait to see it out of the shop and all done.

Oh its all good, my boy sitting behind me in class saw me post one of the pics of my car, then created an account and started talking **** just to get me all riled up and watch me during class. It's all good, just a little practical joke that I bit the big one on.

Ha ha nice. The logic is pretty sound though, especially if you plan to "risk" the car on the track at some point. I've got 12K worth of goodies on my 6.5K Bugeye and I'm not stopping there. And its a pretty short list of stuff that I wouldn't have to do with an Sti. If I crash the car at the track I'll swap everything over (that survives) to an 04 STi or another Bugeye.

You'll love them, I can't speak highly enough about the flares. Well constructed, great fitment, look good, and ability to functionally fit huge tires (my 275's on 9.5 rims look skinny) with functional suspension travel, for a fraction of the cost of a zerosports widebody kit. Great product to be brought to the market. Huge thanks to Karlton, I hated how little rubber most subaru's were able to run compared to other cars. You'll like em when they're on, absolutely changes the look of the car, I can't wait to do my 6 speed swap and see the car with 305's and 10.5 in rims, like say some re30's.
