Default turbo choice 1995 JDM STi

hey guys, got a choice here, not going to be on my dime so not super concerned. my question is as follows, the replaced TD05-16g on my motor died the other week. The turbo builders who are warrenting the replacement are having issues tracking down the compressor and turbine wheels (for the td05), as such i have been offered the option of the shop buying a used VF28 or VF39. this is where my choice comes in. Having searched both on google and this website it has been hard for me to find concrete informatin on the specific differences between these three turbos.

my requirements are that 1.) it not require any tuning as i do not have the funds to change the factory tune of the car at the moment.
2.) no real i need xxx HP/Tq or i need to be able to run a xx.x second 1/4 3.) this is a daily driver. i do like how it drove before the turbo died on me.

Check out this LINK for lots of info on VF39 vs TD05-16G. I'd go with the VF39 simple because it is newer. The two turbos are very close in size and should flow fairly similar (probably slightly less overall, but at stock boost pressure it should be negligible) to your TD05, so no tuning will be required.

On a side note, a TD05 compressor and turbine should be very easy to find. They are very common turbos. If they are trying to warranty a newer turbo with a used unit, I'm not sure that is a business I'd like to deal with personally.

youd be better off finding another used TD05 with the angle entry like yours. any IHI turbo will have direct entry and will require special piping and maybe modification just to angle up and meet your stock intake.

Also you can send out Mitsubishi turbos (TD series) for rebuilds, unlike IHI turbos which are generally know for being too costly to rebuild. I dont know what options there are in canada but my housemate just had his TD06-20G completely re-serviced and overhauled by G-Pop-Shop in Arkansas, USA for about $350 including shipping. I dont know if they can also service one of those older TD05 angle entry turbos, but I would guess they can. Try contacting them or any other place that does rebuilds of Mitsu turbos, and see what you can find.

I'm running a TD05-20G with the 90deg inlet welded on. Making good boost and decent power

the turbo is currently at the shop that did the previous work on the turbo for rebuild. unfortunately the shop is having issues sourcing the compressor and turbine wheels seems there are none in Canada, and they are currently checking US sources but due to thanksgiving this has been slower then desired.

If you just need the parts you could call Kinetic in Langley BC

http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/pro...R-867-246.html

They sell TD0516G and TD0520G. It seems unlikely they wouldnt have the parts.
