Hey guys, got a quick question. I know that I can fit the older EJ20G motor into my transmission, but what would I need to make it work properly?? Since I will be using my transmission, I wouldn't need a new clutch assembly, rear differential, master slave cylinder, etc. right? Glad if someone could give me some insight.

....sigh... tranny always follows the rear.
If you're just changing the engine.... the rest will fit. Subaru didn't change clutch types till the v8. ... so you're fine. |

Really? That's probably the route I'll go then. I know some people say that the long block won't fit because the 02 wrx intake manifold doesnt work with the ej20g, but that's why I just want to get a motor with the wiring harness. Anyone else got some insight?

There will be a missing bolt hole on the motor for the second starter bolt.
Early tranmissions had stud on the trans and no hole on the motor. Later transmissions used a long bolt through the bellhousing and a matching threaded hole on the block. So some fabrication will be involved....a search should turn up what others have done. Not quite sure of your plan, but USDM WRX wiring and ECU will not control an early EJ20G. You should be able swap the cylinder heads and intake manifold and the crank sensor to the older motor. Basically just use the shortblock, but double check compression ratios and head gasket thickness to be sure. |

Yes I'm aware of this. The engine I was looking at did come with an ECU. I think I'm just going to stay USDM for now. |
