Default Need help! Looking at 04 sti with v7 swap

I'm looking at getting another scooby after seriously regretting selling my bug eye. I'm looking at an 04 sti with a jdm v7 swap. Frankly I know nothing about it. He said it has a 5 speed with a ppg mod. I thought they only made v6 5 speed sti Trans. The car is nice 1 owner 75k on the body 25k on the swap. All documented. Does have ugly rs wheels on it. Says he wanted to keep his aftermarket wheels and he already sold the sti wheels. My concerns are why would anyone remove a perfect 2.5 usdm motor with 75k and go through all the trouble and cost to swap a jdm motor? Also if its all it's cracked up to be why is he selling it for $12k? Any help would be great! Going to look at the car on Sunday but it's about 2 hours away. Dont want to go all that way for nothing. Thanks

Also have to add it does not have the brembo breaks. Just had regular 2 piston breaks.

Are you sure that it is an STI and not a WRX? I'd get a VERY good look at the VIN plate on the left side of the engine bay. If that engine code doesn't start with EJ257, then you're looking at a modded WRX.

Also, are the 2-pistons in the rear? If they are, then it sounds like the car may have been set up for rallying. Not exactly a good candidate for a daily driver.

I also noticed it has a regular momo wrx steering wheel not the sti one. The guy said he is the original owner and it's an sti but no one says he's not full of it.

Finally got to the bottle of it by checking all the vins. It's an 02 wrx converted to an 04 sti. Even after I figured it oh the guy still denied it.

Offer $8k for being a liar. Oh and if you do really end up being serious about the car take it to someone for a full inspection first. Leakdown/compression test and listen for any strange noises. Maybe even oil analysis
