Default New 2012 WRX owner from SoCal

Hey everyone, I just picked up a 2012 black WRX premium 4 door last week. I traded in my 2008 Range Rover SC for this baby and couldn't be happier. I plan on murdering out my WRX so stand by for some pics.

Here are a few pics that I just took. Had the tails tinted, added a JDM HID kit to the lowers, debadged the rear and painted the WRX logs on the side and front black. I have a lot more planed so I'll post updates as they come.

I told the guy to match the 20% tint on my windows and he did a very good job. Fresh Tintings in Santa Clarita painted my lights. PM me and I'll let you know how much he charged me. I painted the side badges myself with matte black spray paint and then cleared over it. Came out really nice, I'll post a close up tomorrow. The antena is on order. The dealership could not find the one for the 2012 model when I bought it.

wow, those taillights look good.

you just persuaded me to take a look at this for my 2011 WRX in the same color.

Got mine about 4 weeks ago at the VW/Subaru dealership in Carlsbad, they said they wouldnt be getting any 2012's in until around mid december.

I am thinking of doing the same...just worried about legality. I'm already tinted at 20% all the way around in DE (not legal) and im not sure if tinted tails would be the tipping point for getting pulled over frequently.

Looks great. Is the antenna for 2012 different? I might go ahead and order one of the Shorty antennas to cut down on the size of the 2011.

Just do it. You'll love it and if you do get ticketed then get it signed off or have it removed. Yes, painted tail lights are reversible if it's done correctly.

The installation on a WRX is a quick job. Make sure to get the nose pliers (is that the right name?) to remove the metal ring that secures the base nob in the cradle.

Here is reference vid on youtube:

Does anyone know if the dealership can tint your windows in house? And if so is it any better than going to a independent shop to get it done?

Dude, REALLY nice job on the car...looks awesome with the de-badge, tint, tails, etc. Congrats. Also, you live just a few miles away from the best tuner and shop around for WRX/STI owners. Yimisport Tuning. Just got my 2010 tuned there again last week. 331hp/374tq. Anyway, enjoy the ride amigo!

Oh, and as far as the question above....the dealers just use an independent shop and double the cost...so just go straight to an independent. You could call the dealer and ask who they use for their tinting, maybe they'll tell you who they use. And ususally it's going to be a reputable shop, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about quality. I have a guy I use in Encinitas for all my cars who's been doing it for 20+ years if you're interested.

Thanks! I actually just found out about them yesterday. Didn't even notice that they're in the same complex as my tinter. I'll be giving them a call here shortly.

Yeah, my local Subaru dealership didn't have a single WRX in stock. And they weren't expecting to get any until next year. I called Glendale and they had 1 black sedan which is what I was looking for and a few more in white and blue. Drove down that night in the rain and traded in my ride. This is the 5th car I have purchased in my automotive career and I have to say that the salesmen was cool as ****. No pressure what so ever and the sales manager worked with me on my trade in.
