Also, Kobayashi seems to be the better qualifier of the two, but for whatever reason, he seems to fall back during the races - maybe he ought to avoid airborne McLarens in Turn 1.

Yeah Im sure he would do better than Grosjean and Massa have this year but I think he needs another year before he's ready for a full on championship fight. I guess what Im saying is that Perez deserves to be a #1 driver and he wouldnt be at any of those teams.

they've got 3 podiums this year compared to zero last year. to me, that's positive effect.

I hate their incessant rumor mongering. They always reference "reports" but never cite them. Look at every sentence in that article. Littered with tentative, speculatory terms since they're reporting rumors. It's not news or reporting on anything other than internet forum masturbation.

Quote:
McLaren's hopes of retaining Lewis Hamilton are fading with reports (what reports? from where?) he could be lured to Mercedes by big money and the chance to work with Ross Brawn.

In the wake of the Belgian GP reports (again, from whom?) emerged claiming that Hamilton is off to Mercedes next season to replace the retiring Michael Schumacher. All parties, though, were quick to deny.

The rumours refused to die down with Hamilton questioned about the matter several times during the Monza weekend. The Brit refused to give a 'yes' or 'no' answer, adamant he's focusing on the title race and his management team on his future.

XIX Entertainment, Hamilton's representatives, are believed to be locked in negotiations with McLaren while having also spoken to Mercedes about the British driver.

And while Sportsmail claims McLaren are only willing to offer Hamilton a deal "worth considerably less than his existing £15million-a-year terms", Mercedes have put an offer on the table that matches his "current deal while bonuses could push the sum towards £60m over three years."

Hamilton, the report (WHAT REPORT!?!?!?) claims, is "shocked by McLaren's unwillingness to at least match his current salary."

But it's not all about the money.

Added to it Mercedes have sweetened the deal by offering Hamilton "undisputed" number one status while the 27-year-old is "excited by the prospect of working at Mercedes under Brawn."

The report (le sigh) continued saying that, despite just one win in three seasons for Mercedes, Hamilton is "understood to be satisfied that, with Brawn at the helm and the backing of one of the planet's biggest car manufacturers, Mercedes can provide him with a car capable of realising his dream of emulating Ayrton Senna's record of three World titles. (So they have "quotes" but no source )

"Key to this belief is the fact that Mercedes, along with Ferrari and Renault, are developing the new V6 turbo engine scheduled to be used in Formula One from 2014.

"Brawn admitted that while McLaren will remain a Mercedes customer, the fact his is the 'works team' means they are privy to all of the research and development of the new engine and are therefore better placed to design their car around it."

As for Brawn's point of view, the Mail says he views Hamilton as the "final piece of the jigsaw" needed to put Mercedes at the front of the pack.

Meanwhile, Swiss publication Blick (OMG! A source!!! For something else...) has put forward Sergio Perez as Hamilton's possible replacement at McLaren after the Sauber driver raced to a very impressive runner-up result behind the Brit at last Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.

Although the 22-year-old is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Scuderia president Luca di Montezemolo recently said he won't race for him next season as Perez needs "more experience", paving the way for McLaren to swoop in.
I'm not saying it's true or false, just that they hodge podge rumor mills based on unsupported nonsense.

Reporters often times do not reveal their sources.

We'll find out who he's driving for eventually. There's nothing else really newsworthy going on at the moment, so this is the biggest story F1 sites have - and they're milking it up. Relax.

At this point, it's probably going to happen. Usually the rumors of driver X or Y going to team A or B only get a mention or two, and this one's been going on for weeks.

No that site is usually either garbage rumors or regurgitated Autosport articles. Not that this story is false.

I think it would be an interesting switch.

I had to remove Planet F1 from my news feeds, it is just noise. They just recycle buzzwords to generate traffic. Sadly this generates enough revenue to justify keeping it going.

PlanetF1 is my favorite site...I enjoy the features like team mate wars and winners and losers. They actually bring some color to the sport, unlike sites like autosport and GrandPrix who only report facts. Not saying they aren't better, I just like getting a different take on things. No different than reading NFL Power rankings.

I think this whole HAM to Merc is just his 'management' pulling strings to get a better deal. If he did move, it would be his management that talked him into it. I read today that Mcclaren are already renegotiating..

Well that's interesting because Kamui has out-qualified Sergio 8 to 5 in the first 13 races this year.

2011 it was 10 to 8 in Kobayashi's favor.

I see now we like F1 for completely different reasons. This year and especially next will be all about the drivers.

BBC seeks new face of F1 as Jake Humphrey quits the Corporation

The BBC is looking for a new presenter of its Formula 1 coverage in the UK after the main presenter Jake Humphrey announced that he is to leave the Corporation after 10 years.

Humphrey will become one of the best paid presenters in sport as the face of BT Vision’s ambitious new Premier League football offering, due to start next season. It moves him away from Formula 1, which he has presented since March 2009.

It’s an interesting move for the likeable Humphrey, who was well placed to become the main presenter for BBC Sport in the near future. He fronted the cycling at the London Olympics and has also presented part of the Euro 2012 football tournament.

It will take him away from the mainstream in one sense, but as TV fragments and moves towards convergence with the internet, he will be very well placed for the future. Broadcasters like Al Jazeera are expected to come into the domestic football rights war in three years time as they build up to their World Cup in 2022.

Humphrey will have the opportunity to host BT’s 38 live Premier League games each season for three years. The deal is a huge gamble for BT, which has paid £738 million for the rights. That they have entrusted the delivery of that to Humphrey is a sign of his standing in the industry. In that sense he is a loss to F1.

It leaves the BBC thinking about how they replace him, as they had built the whole presentation around a Top Gear-style ‘three amigos’ dynamic with Humphrey’s playing along in increasingly ridiculous sketches with the antics of Eddie Jordan and the mild dissaproval of David Coulthard.

Lee McKenzie has deputised for Humphrey during his enforced absences on other sports duties in the last couple of years and the BBC may go with her for its 10 live races and 10 highlights races each season.

But the dynamic with the other two other male presenters will clearly change, so it requires a root and branch rethink.

At the end of last season the BBC lost Martin Brundle and Ted Kratitz to the new Sky Sports F1 HD team. Coulthard’s popularity as a pundit and commentator has soared since then.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining the team at BT not just because I get to fulfil a lifelong dream of presenting the Barclays Premier League but because of the fresh perspective that BT will bring to both sport and broadcasting in this country,” said Humphrey.

“To be a part of this young, vibrant team who are as passionate about sport as I am, is a privilege. I’ve grown up at the BBC, and whilst I hope to work with them in the future, I’d also like to place on record my thanks to them.

“I am incredibly grateful to all colleagues, and of course the viewers, for their incredible support from CBBC all the way to Formula 1. My focus from the start of 2013 is on making BT’s coverage of football the best this country has ever seen.”
That's a shame, he was pretty good. Not good enough to keep me from following Brundle over to Sky, although I really wish he would take on the lead commentator role from Croft. I agree with whoever posted it earlier this season, that Croft just screams constantly trying to amp up the show. I miss Brundle's "5 lights. Look, but never stare" at each start. I'd like to see Coulthard and Brundle teamed up at Sky. I haven't seen any BBC coverage this year, but I hear it's still been top notch.

Crofty annoys me. he was better on five live covering the FP sessions, since those could really use some livening up.

Hamilton rumored to be offered extra $2mm over existing Mclaren offer.

http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/89926.html

Quote:
McLaren has upped its offer to Lewis Hamilton in an attempt to dissuade him signing a deal with Mercedes for 2013, according to several British newspapers.

The Guardian and the Daily Mail report that McLaren have offered an extra £2 million a year on top of their original offer of £10 million in order to counter the offer from Mercedes, which the Times believes stands at £10.5 million. Both deals fall short of Hamilton's current contract with McLaren, but the Mercedes option would allow Hamilton to chase lucrative personal sponsors, which McLaren limits in order to prevent conflicts with its commercial partners.

McLaren is said to be confident Hamilton will sign soon, but when asked if a deal could be done this week, team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: "We will see what we can do. I am not going to make any predictions." F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone believes Hamilton is currently weighing up the two offers, but told ESPNF1 that the driver had been planning to leave McLaren earlier in the year.

"I don't think Hamilton knows what he will do," Ecclestone said. "These last couple or three races he has been doing very well. Before that, why he was upset I don't know, but he was definitely going to move no matter what. He had made up his mind that he was going. Whether he has changed now a little bit I don't know."

According to the Times, questions over Mercedes' commitment to Formula One could be a stumbling block for negotiations, with the team yet to confirm it has agreed to a new deal with the sport's commercial rights holder. In Singapore there were rumours Mercedes had signed a new Concorde Agreement, which would commit the German manufacturer to the sport until 2020, but motorsport boss Norbert Haug said nothing had been finalised.

"We all have to accept that there are rumours, but as soon as everything is finalised we will tell you. We are not slowing down the process, we've had a very constructive process and that's all I can say. It's going definitely in the right direction."

The Daily Telegraph reports that ex-triple world champion Niki Lauda "has apparently been instrumental in [Mercedes] overtures, selling Hamilton a vision of a 'super-team'." But in an interview with Formula One's official website, Lauda said he did not expect any big name changes among the top teams.

"I don't see any mouth-watering switch being made," he said. "Hamilton will stay with McLaren."

Although he added: "That is what I say today. Without knowing what I am talking about!"

Easy for me to say, and it's a decent percentage increase, but squabbling about money while he can afford just about anything he could possibly want is silly. He wants another championship.
