Easy tiger!

I agree it's just journalists trying to sensationalize. But Ferrari's windtunnel correlation is broken and they haven't brought any new bits for a while. Apparently some new stuff is in the pipeline and I'd love to see a battle royale going into the final races instead of Vettel waltzing away with it Gagnam style. Hope they can find 0.3 sec/lap.

India names kerb after Massa

Following some embarrassing slip-ups, organisers of the Indian Grand Prix have named one of their kerbs after Felipe Massa. Over the course of the 2011 weekend, the Ferrari driver broke his front suspension against kerbs not once, but twice.

The piece named ‘Massa kerb’ is on the apex of Turn 8, which is the rapid right-hander which is the first part of a high-speed chicane. In qualifying last year, the Ferrari broke its right-front suspension and ended up in the barriers after clouting the kerb at speed. A day later, Massa’s race ended in the same way when he removed the left-front suspension following a hit with the other kerb on the exit of the chicane.

What makes you think this will be worse than Fox/Speed? 100 hours of coverage equals five hours per race, pretty similiar to what we get out of Speed currently.

NBC Sports Group has signed a four-year deal with Formula One for the exclusive U.S. media rights to the world's most popular global motorsports series.
The deal that begins next season will air four races on NBC. The remaining 16 races, and all practices and qualifying sessions will be on cable NBC Sports Network in what's expected to total more than 100 hours of annual programming.
All 20 races will be live streamed on NBC Sports Live Extra, the NBC Sports Group’s live-stream platform that is available online at NBCSports.com as well as on mobile and tablet apps.
“We are thrilled to add the top international open-wheel racing series to our already-strong motorsports portfolio,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “Formula 1 is a perfect fit for the NBC Sports Group as it provides content across three platforms — broadcast, cable and digital — for nine months a year with more than 100 hours of premier programming annually.”
The 2013 F1 Grand Prix schedule includes 20 races in 19 countries from March through November, including the Austin, Texas, race on Sunday, Nov. 17 on NBC. The 2013 season begins on Sunday, March 17 in Australia on NBC Sports Network and concludes on Sunday, Nov. 24 in Brazil on NBC. NBC’s first race will be the Grand Prix of Canada, which will be broadcast on Sunday, June 9. The famed Grand Prix of Monaco is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, on NBC Sports Network.
“NBC and its various media assets have a huge profile throughout the United States, and I am obviously delighted to have concluded this agreement. I feel that they will promote Formula One to a level not seen before in the United States,” said Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One Group CEO. “I very much look forward to working with NBC. Together, we will endeavor to broaden the scope of Formula One coverage available to U.S. viewers incorporating additional digital content in particular that has not been available before.”
Cable network Speed had been the U.S. rights holder to F1 for the last 17 years, but told The Associated Press on Friday it had been outbid by another network.

100hrs of annual programming is also pretty decent, averaging out to 5hrs per weekend. Just yesterday I sat down at 4PM and watched qualifying buildup, qualifying, race buildup, race and post race on SkyF1 and got done at around 11PM. That's going to be a ton of coverage. Of what quality, who knows. Chances are I'll stick with the Limeys.

I think they are implying that the lead ferrari and alonso had was a bit luck, and was hanging on on by a thread. And now that redbull seems to have their stuff in order, it should be a runaway.

Not saying thats how I feel or my opinion, but i think its the image that is being portrayed.

looks like hulkenburg to Sauber. that seems like sort of a sideways move to me.

and massa more than likely staying at ferrari. probably because he listens so well when they tell him he's too close to alonso lol.

Felipe Massa has done enough to secure a new Ferrari contract for 2013.

The Brazilian was at times even faster in Korea than his championship-challenging teammate Fernando Alonso, and after the race team boss Stefano Domenicali was all but confirming paddock rumors that a new deal will be announced imminently.

"As my friend (singer) Laura Pausini would say, 'Wait and see'," Domenicali said.

He said Ferrari's position would be made clear "very soon".

Asked if he still had any doubts he will still be racing a red car in 2013, the similarly-smiling 31-year-old Massa said in Korea: "No, I don't.

"But anyway we wait for the (right) time. I think it will be pretty soon to be honest."

With Massa's future now clear, it has also emerged that Nico Hulkenberg - until now a leading contender to replace the formerly-struggling Brazilian - will instead move over to Ferrari-powered Sauber to replace Sergio Perez.

"At the moment, my focus is simply on 2012 and doing the best I can," the German said in Korea after racing to an impressive sixth place.

But his future boss Peter Sauber told Blick newspaper on Sunday: "Nico's race was very strong."

Sauber said much less about Kamui Kobayashi's race, leaving it to Jenson Button to brand the Japanese an "idiot" and "Kobay-crashi" for his first-lap antics.

Kobayashi is believed in real danger of losing his seat to the Telmex-backed Esteban Gutierrez.

Button was also not impressed with his future McLaren teammate Sergio Perez's first-lap driving, saying of the Sauber pair: "It's very poor driving standards, considering this is the pinnacle of motor sport."

"A race is not two corners long and some people need to learn that. Whether they will ever learn that, we will have to wait and see," he added.

With Hulkenberg moving over to Sauber, reports suggest the leading contenders to replace him at Force India are Adrian Sutil, Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi.

i believe hulkenberg's move to Suaber is to move to the sister team of ferrari until Massa is finally out and nico can go in. Personally, i think force India has been improving alot through the years and their pace is getting close to the front mid runners if they aren't there already!

Sauber seems like a much better place to be, especially considering possible future ownership/sponsor problems with SFI.

Five hours per weekend isn't enough for me. I'm one of the guys downloading every practice, even though I already know everything that's happened. Hell, I even downloaded the rained-out events this year.

Five hours covers about a quali and a full race (build-up/race/post). Not enough, I say!

I'm sticking with teh Brits.

I think I'd be too bored to watch practices. Heck, I usually don't bother watching qualy unless I'm already up and watching TV.

Quali is very exciting, but I don't download the practice sessions. If it's an Asian race and I can catch it streaming on Speed.com at 9PM, I'll keep it on in the background and flip to it, but there's no commentary and not much going on anyways. I've downloaded British practice coverage and found it too uneventful to spend hours on.

i watch all 3 practices if i can but if i'm not up, i'm not up, i dont stress. For me, i think Quali is very interesting and watching q3 on the final minutes when the drivers are making there last hot laps with no time left and running close to pole, is so exhilarating.

I don't watch the practice sessions. If you got to see more of the testing stuff, and get some real technical break downs, then i could be persuaded to watch. but usually its just some random jabber on Speed.

I fast forward most of Q1 and Q2, sometimes skipping Q1 entirely. I sometimes fast forward the 4 minutes of dead time in the middle of Q3. And if its a busy weekend for me i ll fast forward about 20-25 laps worth of race time.

I love the sport, the technology, and the development. I wish we could see more of that. I think i get more excited about the pick up in the forum activity during a race week. Seeing all the intersting posts, and sneak pictures, and technical discussions. And even though the championships have been close, and according to the numbers the passing has increased, I always feel like the race day excitement has gone down.

I blame it on the new approach to tires, the change in refueling, and the overall increase in reliability.

I skip practice sessions, watch the last 10 seconds of each qualifying session and watch the first few laps of each race before falling back asleep or skipping to the end of the race.

Hardcore here.

I have been skipping practice sessions lately as there's no car development to speak of, and that's most of what I want to see.

I've been skipping thru races to get to the pitstops because who wants to watch a bunch of blokes managing their tires for 90 minutes instead of racing each other?

In between pitstops, I pause when I see a radio message or a yellow flag or the announcers seem agitated.

At least the race in Austin will be worth watching in person since you will be able to see the cars sliding around on the limit and getting your eardrums destroyed.

watching practice is fun largely because of the raw audio.

I love the Sky coverage and watch all the practices and Qualy as well
I'm still interested though in whether or not NBC will do a good job with this.
About 5 hours of TV coverage on the weekends as well as additional streaming coverage it sound like.

I'll still watch the Sky coverage most likely. Depending on who they have at NBC.

The Sky coverage has to be the best out there. They actually go looking for the new parts, and the most recent race was a great example. The practices are some of the most entertaining things for me to watch because all of the development parts are run in P1 and sometimes P2. Seeing a car on screen covered in flow-vis is my cue to get right up by the screen.

How about that Mclaren reliability lately?

I usually stream the practice sessions to hear the SkyF1 commentary, I really enjoy their banter and they seem to make great use of having a man in the pits who can get answers to questions really quickly. I watch the qualifying on Speed, since they don't miss much of the actual action with commercials. For the race, if I am up when it is live I'll watch speed and turn to the stream on the laptop or tablet when they go to commercial. If I am going to watch later in the day I just wait for the HD upload and download it.

From what I've seen, NBC Sports is saying that they will have all the practices shown live on TV according to the article on their site:

http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/494104...-motor_sports/

The 100 hour figure makes sense if you look at it in the context of how much time it will generate for NBC Sports with 16 races and 20 qualifying/practice blocks.

If they really want to use it as a lead in to Indycar, they may choose to have a nice post race, especially if they are talking about expanding to possibly have multiple people on the ground at the races.

I am a little torn on how I feel about Felipe's new contract. On one hand, I'm sure it is his dream to win for Ferrari, but that just isn't in the cards with Fernando in the other garage bay. I am wondering if he should have taken his recent performance and used it to rejoin one of the top mid pack teams like Williams or Sauber. That would have given him the freedom to be as fast as he could be in the car, and likely have the lead role in the direction the development of the car went, but it would most likely have meant foregoing a paycheck and having to find a sponsor for the team to secure the seat.

Either way, I think the likelihood of him ever being a WDC is near zero at this point, even if he continues to show some of his old pace. He won't get a ride at any of the top four teams after next year (assuming Ferrari doesn't offer him another year) and I doubt any of the mid pack teams will be able to honestly battle out for a title across twenty races, the season is just too long to stay ahead of the pack without significant resources to dedicate to constant improvement.
