Working alongside the commentary duo, Anthony Davidson will join Croft in the box for practice sessions while Natalie Pinkham and Ted Kravitz will be based out on the pitlane with the latter also co-presenting a post-event show with Sky Sports regular, Georgie Thompson.

Fronting the entire package will be Simon Lazenby. "Our first approach was to go for the biggest name in our territory of F1 broadcasting and that is Martin Brundle because of his reach and his almost universal popularity. He is, we think, an amazing signing and somebody I've been watching for the last fifteen years become the wise man of F1," said Sky Sports executive producer Martin Turner.

Sky also announced that Steve Rider, who fronted ITV's Formula One coverage between 2006-2008, will be responsible for presenting a series of interviews and features with current and past drivers.
"Ted Kravitz has huge knowledge of the pitlane and paddock and he and Natalie Pinkham will get the information and access our viewers need," added Turner. "And guiding us through the coverage we have the experience of Simon Lazenby and Georgie Thompson. Each has hosted major sports events, from the British Lions to the Ryder Cup – they have trust and respect."

The 2012 Formula One season gets underway at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia on the weekend of March 16-18 and will conclude on the weekend of November 21-23 at the Interlagos track in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I like that they're throwing some sexy in there. I also think Martin's commentating is top notch and I'm glad he made the jump.

They had some other tricks up their sleeve, I believe. Did anyone else hear vettels engine on starts? I think there was only two occasions where they had his on-board camera running.....sounded like some sort of launch control to me! The one I can remember was brazil. Sounded VERY strange!!!

Agreed, Sky is throwing the kitchen sink at it. Looking forward to them trying to keep the frankly spectacular production value of the BBC coverage.

Now that Croft is moving to the front line alongside Brundle at Sky, I just read that James Allen will be taking over Croft's role as 5 Live commentator for practices and race. I really enjoyed putting 5 Live free practices on in the background when I was at home working in the garage etc.

I wonder what Speed's TV numbers would be if they also streamed the race without commentary.

Watching an entire Grand Prix feed without any commentary would be the best thing ever.

Does anyone here actually need someone to tell you what's what? Aside from Buxton's "interviews" from pitlane during the race I can't think commentary adds much other then noise.

I wish the FIA would just stream all the on board cameras, and you could watch 2 or 4 of them on split screen of the guys you wanted to follow.

The V10's never revved to 20,000. The first motor to hit the 20,000 mark was the Cosworth V8 during testing.

The hondas were OVER 20 for the tast v-10 race. And over 1000hp.

Uh, the V8 era started in 2006. Cosworth's V8 was running at 20,000 RPM in late 2005 during testing. There is no record of a F1 V10 hitting 20,000 rpm.

The nice thing about the BBC feed is that there aren't commercials, and its in English. I believe that is why people prefer it.

They can't have launch control, the FIA mandates the ECU. The mapping is also locked down for a bit, so I doubt it was anything strange, it was just the sound of the blown diffuser.

I need some commentary to keep my ADD in check, but I would be fine with only two people.

I don't believe it was HD, but I believe it was PAL or something similar. It was clearer than what we got, which would make sense that it was PAL (568 lines versus the bastardized 480 we got). That failure (think it stopped in 2002 or 2003) is why it took so long for HD to catch on.

No doubt; the Beeb's coverage was/is excellent, Im just way to impatient to wait and download the coverage.

I seem to recall from several years back (during the change to the 2.4 V8s) that the resonance internally of the V10 was preventing it from achieving more revs. The new (at the time) V8s didn't have this issue at the 20k mark, which was why they so easily got to and above it.

No, I am not saying that were not other issues with vibration/resonance with the V8...

I feel your pain, but it's worth it to watch awesome coverage and on my time.

The first few races I'll probably DL both the Sky and BBC coverage to see which I like more. Chances are I'll be switching to Sky for their dedicated coverage to all races and for Marty.
