You're right he's giving up the hope of actually winning the WDC as he will most likely never be able to beat Alonso accross an entire season. I think at this point he figures its better to play second fiddle at Ferarri than to play first at a mid-pack team.

I bet people were saying similar things in 2008.

True. I highly doubt that Fred will have a huge drop in performance at any time.

I think the big difference is that Kimi doesn't have a history of trying to sabotage a successful teammate unlike Fernando. Additionally, there was a bit more parity between Massa and Kimi at that time, as Felipe was still thought of as a strong student of Schumacher and Michael was still part of the Ferrari family in some sense. I don't think Massa suddenly said 'oh, I should be faster' over the summer holiday, the car finally reached a point in its development where both drivers could get the most out of it. The reality is that if Fernando says "do A" and Felipe says "do B", there is a 99% chance that A gets done, regardless of its effect on Massa. I would love to see Felipe win the championship, but with Ferrari's relegation of him to Barrichelo status and the two tiered championship that we have now, combined with the fact that it will probably get worse once the entry fees go up, I think his chances slipped through his grasp at the end of a detached fuel filler hose and around a sliding Timo Glock.

Williams development driver Susie Wolff had her first F1 experience today when she drove last year’s FW33 at Silverstone.

Wolff had two 50km outings, one on wet tires and another on slicks after the track dried out.

The Mercedes DTM driver, who is married to team co-owner Toto Wolff, had already done some running in the simulator.

“It was incredible to experience a Formula One car for the first time,” she said. “I’ve done a lot of simulator work since I joined the team but nothing compares to the exhilaration of driving the real thing.

“The conditions were a little tricky as it was quite damp at the beginning of the run but the track soon dried out. The team also did a fantastic job preparing me for today, giving me all the information I needed so that I was always in control.’’

Her DTM record isn't quite as sterling as Mister DiResta's but good for her.

Sounds like she could have been implying what should have followed at the end of that sentence: "unlike some other female F1 test drivers."

F1: New Jersey Race Postponed
Bernie Ecclestone will announce that the inaugural Grand Prix of America race won’t happen until 2014…

The inaugural Grand Prix of America race in Northern New Jersey will be postponed one year until 2014, sources have confirmed to SPEED.com.

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone and event organizers will make the announcement on Thursday, sources said.

The race, scheduled for June 16, 2013, will be pushed back a year in order for track organizers to finish the permitting process needed to complete the 3.2-mile road course along the Hudson River in Weehawken and West New York, N.J.

Among other things, track officials are waiting approval from Corps of Engineers to take control of property along the Hudson River where grandstands will be erected.

The three-day event is expected to attract more than 100,000 race fans and pump in more than $100 million to the local economy.

Last month, the New Jersey event was released on the official 2013 Formula One calendar, one of 20 races in 19 countries.

Why do they always say this crap when so many races are struggling to be able to afford F1? They try to make it sound like it's all income and the races pay for themselves.

http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227...rijns-for-test

Sauber have confirmed Esteban Gutierrez and Robin Frijns for next month's Young Driver test in Abu Dhabi.

Gutierrez, who finished third in this year's GP2 series, is a hot favourite to replace Sergio Perez at Sauber next season after the team signed a new sponsorship deal with Mexican telecommunication company TelMex.

The 21-year-old will have the opportunity to show the team what he can do when he climbs into the cockpit of the C31 at the Young Driver test.

Gutierrez will be in action on the final two days with Formula Renault 3.5 Championship contender Frijns behind the wheel on the opening day.

The test at the Yas Marina circuit runs from the 6th to the 8th November.

He's a coming and said it a while back...

Anyone else follow Connor Daly or Alexander Rossi? Both have dominated in the lower ranks and are now getting close to F1 level and still finishing in the front pack.

I did my first race back in 2007 at road atlanta with skip barber and raced next to Connor Daly. He qualified pole and finished p1 as i qualified 10th and finished 6th. As he owns and drives a subi, i believe an 04-05 blue sti.. we had good convo's. With his father, who has raced f1 in this younger days, i'm sure Daly and Rossi have the best potential for an American to make the F1 grid!

I haven't heard much about CD but AR did the Caterham test in Spain this year. I actually ran into him at the Grand Am race at laguna seca and chatted briefly and I think he might get a shot in GP2 soon.
