I'm just glad Kimi is out of the WRC. Hopefully he has more success back in F1.

I always liked what Kimi had to say. It always seemed like he just said whatever he wanted to didn't care.
Crash out at Monaco, time to party on my boat! Doesn't matter that the race is still going on

Ferrari and Red Bull Racing have decided to withdraw from the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) on the back of the ongoing row over the Resource Restriction Agreement, AUTOSPORT can reveal.

Amid ongoing debate about the future of FOTA, with teams failing to agree a way forward for the RRA after a crunch meeting at the Brazilian Grand Prix, high level sources have revealed that both Ferrari and Red Bull Racing have lodged notification that they intend to leave the organisation.

It is understood that both teams wrote to FOTA earlier this week to inform them of their decision.

Neither Red Bull Racing nor Ferrari would comment on the situation when contacted by AUTOSPORT on Friday to discuss it.

A spokesman for FOTA confirmed only that the body had received notice from two teams that they no longer intended to be a part of it, but would not elaborate on which teams they were.

"FOTA confirms it has received the resignation of two teams," said a spokesman. "Whilst considering its next steps, FOTA will continue to work on behalf of its members to achieve the aims of the organisation."

FOTA's latest statutes mean that teams must give a two-month notice period to leave the organisation, which means Red Bull Racing and Ferrari will officially depart the body by the start of February next year - providing they do not change their mind.

Ferrari has viewed a deal over the RRA as key to FOTA's future - with Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali warning earlier this year that if a deal could not be reached to sort out cost controls within FOTA then the future of the body should be called into question.

Speaking at the Korean Grand Prix, Domenicali said: "If this [mistrust] will come out of FOTA activity then what is FOTA all about? We know the reason why FOTA started, and now we need to understand if FOTA is still needed. What are the objectives of the future of FOTA, if there is a future for FOTA?

"We need to do that in a very constructive way, a very open way. That is the discussion that I believe in the next weeks is important to take over."

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner said at the same race: "I think that FOTA has reached the crossroads where it needs to deal with some of the key issues moving forward or we'll stop. It's as simple as that.

"The principal issues are obviously the Concorde Agreement, the direction that goes in, and fundamentally the RRA (Resource Restriction Agreement). If we can't find agreement within FOTA on that, then what is the purpose of FOTA?"

Although the main battleground between the teams has been over the RRA, and the departure of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing has been linked to this, AUTOSPORT understands that outfits are still working hard to try and find agreement on the matter.

Sources have revealed that the four biggest teams – Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Mercedes – have agreed to meet privately within the next fortnight to try and make progress on the RRA.

If these teams can resolve their differences, then the plan is to then return to other FOTA members with a solution that can then be implemented by all outfits.
Not very surprising, but FOTA is basically dead.

Good read. I was going to comment that the lights don't go green at the beginning of the race like he said, but didn't want to register to do so.

I believe this is the most ever, the previous top was 1970 with 5 champions

I don't think helium is a bad thing, it was just cut because its expensive.

I think he was making a joke about the world wars and germany not doing so good in them. It looked like he realized about halfway through the anecdote that he probably shouldn't say that.

Exactly. With Austin up in the air I'm not going to get my hopes up too much about New Jersey. Hopefully the organizers are more...organized. I would love Austin to continue, F1, Motogp, World Super Bike (I think), and not that long a road trip from CA.

The FIA WMSC has ratified various changes to the 2012 F1 technical and sporting regulations, most of which were already in the public domain.

Among the new ones, lapped cars will be allowed to unlap themselves and join the back of the queue at safety car restarts, while there will be a clampdown on corner cutting on laps back to the pits and so on, as practiced by Sebastian Vettel in qualifying in Korea.

The change which is likely to lead to the most controversy stops drivers from returning to the racing line after they have made a defensive move.

The full list is as follows:

Changes to the 2012 Technical Regulations

• All engine standard ECU set up and control parameters, which were formerly contained only within a Technical Directive, are now contained within the relevant parts of the Technical Regulations.

• The exhaust tailpipes are now strictly regulated in order to ensure that the aerodynamic effect exhaust gases have on the car is kept to an absolute minimum.

• Better marking of in-car emergency switches operated by marshals are now stipulated.

• The side impact structures will now have to be subjected to a further (upward) push-off test.

Changes to the 2012 Sporting Regulations

• Cars may no longer take part in pre-season testing without having passed all crash tests.

• There will now be a maximum race time of four hours to ensure that a lengthy suspension of a race does not result in a race that could run up to eight hours if left unregulated.

• Before the safety car returns to the pits, all lapped cars will be allowed to unlap themselves and then join the back of the pack, ensuring a clean restart without slower cars impeding those racing for the leading positions.

• Cars which were in the pit lane when a race is suspended will now be allowed to rejoin the cars on the grid in the position they were in when the race was suspended.

• Drivers may no longer leave the track without a justifiable reason, i.e. cutting a chicane on reconnaissance laps or ‘in’ laps to save time and fuel.

• Drivers may no longer move back onto the racing line having moved off it to defend a position.

• One three-day test will be carried out during the season, formerly there were none.

• All stewards’ decisions which are not subject to appeal are now in one place instead of being in various places within the regulations.

• All tires allocated to a driver may now be used on the first day of practice; formerly only three sets were permitted.

Sadly, I'm still not confident the US GP will happen next year. They already had to delay the race because the track wouldn't be ready, how is taking a month off going to help? I also won't be able to afford going either

last i heard about why they changed the date (a month or so ago) it was because June in Texas is too hot for cars, drivers, and spectators. they were also supposed to be ahead of schedule at that time also. but, who knows how much of that is real and how much is press talk.

Tavo admitted that was a lie, they needed more time to build the track, it had nothing to do with the heat in Texas, although I can only find this in tweets from the press conference from a few weeks ago.
